Here's what the LED section of the U2 looks like:

Please note that some U2s will not open at this junction at all because of the presence of a thread-welding substance.

P.S. The U2 can function in candle mode. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The LuxV looks like it can be replaced.
Hmm, an X4T U2 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

think, I've already got one of those. that's why I'm not opening mine. don't want to risk damaging my U2.

Thanks for posting these. I'd be opening mine, if it wasn't sealed. It's probably for the better, knowing me.

There's no way of knowing with a bare emitter. Only with stars...

I have no idea, but it's bright. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

it's not marked, but you can tell by performance!

my U2 output in total lumens is almost identical to my two 27mm equiped Xbins. color is white at all levels, which make me think lower vf. now I want to take apart to measure vf.

when Xbin's and U2 are driven by li-ion cells, they all draw aprox 1.5amps. please note U2 is driven by JSB 2x 3V @ 1480 milliamps, X4T PR-T is driven by 1x bare R123 li-ion @ 1630 milliamps. X3T is driven by 2x CR123 @ 1141 milliamps. all measurements by fluke 87.

going strictly by performance, I've got either an overachieving WWOT or XWOT in my U2.

Just FYI, I talked to future electronics and Surefire on another subject and this came up, they said the reason the U2 is so much brighter is the curved optics and coating. He wouldn't say anymore.

We will never really know I guess. But cy's approximation is quite true and I believe some U2s are surely better than others. Just like some of us buying a few L4s and then choosing the best one and sell the rest.

I am just more concerned if the luxeonV can be replaced and it seems that it's quite possible now. Just waiting for our top modders to show us their work /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Btw, did anyone notice that the U2 specs on SF site states that the output is from 2 - 80 lumens instead of the older 2 - 100 lumens??

I think you can count on as many U2's being modded as KL5's! {think about a real small number} I have one that I won't be selling as new! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif I was only able to get past the anodize in a few spots. If someone figures out how to get past the O-ring and into the thread sealant (hell weld!) and get these apart, I hope I catch the drift!

I think Greg lucked into one where the assembler was on holiday. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

Ok ..... so no need to pry it off then. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My bad, they updated the site and I didn't see it. Very, very cool.

I'm surprised at some of the things though - that the Z33 fits (does it? mine and grnamin's didn't), and the V21 holster only fits if you remove the pocket clip. Interesting to see the downrating of the LED. To me, it's worthy of 100 lumens, it gives my C2-90 a run for its money.
