Interesting combo light - reviewed

ledled: Unfortunately I don't own any other multi-LED flashlights yet, so I am unable to compare. I can say the 3 LED mode is much brighter than the ARC AAA LE (as would be expected) and looks very blue, especially the centers of each LED beam, making the ARC AAA LE look greenish in comparision.

edit: I don't know if the LEDs are Nichia or not, although a sticker on the plastic packaging says "LED Japan made" and then to the lower right of the same sticker has a picture of a white LED and it says "white". Maybe you are supposed to think it's Nichia.

length not including lanyard hole is 6-13/16". So the lanyard mounting point on the tail end adds 1/4".

width of front bezel is 2-11/16". This is the widest part of the flashlight and it is round. The body of the flashlight is an oval shape that gets larger as it nears the front bezel/reflector. The smallest part of the tail end is an oval shape about 1-5/8" by 1". The CCFL reflector bulges out of the top of the light by about 1/4-3/8" near the tail end. You can kind of make it out in the picture.

Joe: The xenon bulb looks like a regular PR type of bulb like many flashlights use. Replacing the bulb is very easy.

The CCFL is not designed to be replaced as far as I can tell. The CCFL reflector assembly is either glued or snapped into place firmly. Gaining access to it does not look easy. The good news, like vcal said in his post, is that the CCFL has a long life. The packaging on this light claims 15,000 hours.

edit: I haven't tried dropping it. The CCFL tube is very thin (I'd guess about 1/8" or 2mm thick). It's 4" in length, so the stresses that it might feel at the center point of the tube might be severe enough to break it if it is dropped. I don't want to drop test mine on purpose, but if I accidently drop it, I'll try to post the outcome here.

Nerd: The CCFL reflector assembly is designed in a manner that does not let me see the actual CCFL mount points or the ends of the tube. The tube just "disappears" into a hole at either side of the reflector. The blue plastic of the flashlight body is semi-transparent, so I can almost see the tail-end CCFL mount. The CCFL tube could be mounted in a silicone end-cap or hard plastic end-cap which is held in place by the plastic body. I can't really tell, but I'd guess "minimal" shock absorbtion. I don't know how fragile CCFL tubes are.

In playing around with the CCFL mode, I discovered that it does in fact get quite a bit brighter after you leave it on for a minute or two. I guess it needs to "warm up" to reach full brightness, which I didn't notice in the 20 seconds of use I gave it before writing my review. It's still not quite as bright as the Osram FL light I mentioned, but not too shabby at all. It's almost painful to stare at the CCFL tube whe it's all warmed up. The packaging states it is a 6V 1.5W CCFL tube. I forgot to mention this in my review.

FWIW-the first night I had my Arc-White CCFL-it slipped out of my jacket pocket and fell hard 3 feet onto my driveway,

-when I put all the pieces back together-the whole light worked just fine..including the CCFL.

If anyone here in the UK wants one of these 3 in 1 torches, I recently saw one in Gadgetshop priced at £25.

Just noticed web store is out of stock, but the branch I was in yesterday (Bluewater) had about ten on display.
 
I did a bit of searching and found the makers of this flashlight. Looks very interesting but it would be nice to find a place to get one for around $20.00 instead of $30.00 in the U.S. Here is the URL for the home page. http://www.shingfung.com.hk/new_products/new1.htm

It looks like they have several unique LED lights on their site. One LED keychain light is even in the shape of a spark plug. Very unusual.

Well, even if we don't know the name of this cool little flashlight, at least now we know the model# to search by. It's FX-8806 (6 LED).
 
Interesting. Here is a URL for the same company (Lifestyle Fasination) and the exact same flashlight, but this offer says that you get 20% off the purchase of a second light whereas the other link given (www.gadgetbabe.com) does not make that statement. Looks like this is the better link to buy through if you want to purchase multiple flashlights. I think these unique flashlights might make some very cool Christmas gifts so the 20% off a second unit would be nice. I'm still trying to find a cheaper place to buy from though. It seems strange that only one American company appears to be handling such a neat flashlight. I think this light would sell well in the large chain stores such as Wal-Mart, but then again, I thought that the Energizer Arc White would do well to but they killed that.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Yep. I bought 4 Arc White's from Wal mart at about $5 on closeout last year. I think they have a policy that if something doesn't somehow suck they can't sell it there. ("We're going to be the leading provider of mediocre quality products, and that's it!") Prediction: The Legend LX won't last much past the end of the year there.
 
Minjin...I'm currently running lithium AA's in my Arc White, and the CCFT handles the extra "oomph" just fine. I took it camping earlier this year and the CCFT got extensive run-time using lithiums, and I encountered no problems...FYI
