I have a battery that is about 80% dry, and when I use it in my LS20, the low engages as usual, but for high, only the GD led engages, and no low. Pretty neat! The GD isn't as bright as it normally is with a full cell, but this made me wonder if an LS20 could somehow be modified so that high doesn't engage the 3mm's, I guess saving some battery life - though I don't know how much - and making it truly two 'independent' stages. Not that it functionally changes the light's behavior much, but thought it would be pretty interesting =)

Try this:

I can get the center cree to go on by itself by pressing the head in such a manner that the kilroy doesn't touch the piston (press the head down toward the piston on the opposite end of the kilroy). Only the outer contact ring completes the current's path.

Very interesting. I tried playing with it a bit but didn't succeed =)

I forgot to mention that you have to tighten the head to just the right amount. If the cree doesn't light up, keep on tightening little by little and pressing down the head around the bezel in circles (until you find the spot opposite of kilroy's nose)
