Right: Black Mag2C, LuxIII TV0J emitter, VIP750 driver, C size O-sink, green glow ring, UCL lens, smooth reflector, running on 2C NiMH batteries.

I machined a VIPcan for the D-size and the C-size O-sink.
The VIP drivers are not potted. The back of the pcb is sealed with epoxy.

VIP1000 Mag2D (Ie=1000mA, 9740 Lux)
Ran in regulation for 3 hours and 16 minutes on two Supreme Power 9000mAh NiMH batteries.

VIP750 Mag2C (Ie=750mA, 8490 Lux)
Ran in regulation for 2 hours and 33 minutes on two Memorex 4000mAh NiMH batteries.

Are you going to be selling models of these lights, or the vip cans for C/D cell mags?

Certainly not the most exciting mod but the VIP is a great driver and makes both of these lights very useful. Don't forget these lights run on widely available common C and D NiMH cells. No special batteries, holders or chargers needed! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/au.gif

I'll build these VIPMags on request as long as George is selling the VIP drivers (these are leftover from MRBulk’s VIP project). If someone is interested in the VIPcans shown in the pictures I’ll be happy to make some more. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

How does it compare to my FlexMag LuxV?
Hmm… like every other LuxIII mod compared to the LuxV. LuxIII more throw, LuxV more lumens.
However when I compare the output of the VIPMag2D (VIP1000) to my FlexMag LuxIII on the highest level (1000mA) I can’t see any difference. Same throw and same Lumens to the naked eye.

Pretty decent - considering it REALLY is capable of pushing out 1000mA, doesn't require heatsinking/potting.

At 750mA in the low 90%, at 1000mA in the 85%+ range.

Wow, that's nice! Great runtime!! You could do a 2C 1000ma and get 5000ma C cells for the same runtime as your D cells. Or get 10000ma D cells /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That really is great runtime for constant current.

Man, I might have to pick me up a 2C Pewter so I can have non-stop 1000ma Cyan Power!!! 3C alkalines don't push much past 600 for more than 3 mins /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

What would be the best driver of George's for use in a Mag like these that are no -frills- (no dimming features,etc) but boost 1000ma?

Great job! I just did one very similar, a 2D with a VIP828 (changed a resistor on the VIP1000 board to make it a 750 and then back up to 828mA - calculated). You've done nice clean work and and a great choice with George's excellent driver. Cheers,
