how do i make the battery in my ipod last longer?its a 3rd generation ipod it has a lithium in it i think?do i let it disharge all the way before i recharge it? does it have memory? how many recharges discharges does it have usaly?

Hey Raggie, thats great! So you think the battery isn't working well? If it wasn't used much then the display probably isn't accurate, there are several threads on apple's support site talking about it being an "estimate" when I first got mine it ran through the first 3 bits of the display in the first 2 hours and then lasted like 6 on the last one.

You should first make sure the firmware is up to date, there was an update recently that improved the battery display and life. Then use it till it turns off and then charge it all the way back up again.

If the battery life is still bad, then somebody left the poor thing in the heat in the car repeatedly or something like that and you'll be out another $50 for a new battery /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

well it gets like i say 6 and a half hours now. other then that i love it am im very hard to please . it has the coolest switches i have ever seen i have no idea how they work but u can kust drag finger over touch pad it is very sensitive /ive read it reads the electricity are body makes .i dont knbow but it does somwething odd the switchesdont move but react. it sounds great and i got it for 140 and i see it selling for a lot more used. my dad helped me get it i visted him to do some work on his house.he loves music but he never saw this stuff before he hardly ever saw a cd player before.. he was so afraid it would be broke when i bought it i was kinda scared to /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gifi love music more then anything.

Congrats raggie! The buttons are touch sensative. I don't know how they work on the iPod but I know on Apple's LCD displays it works using some kind of IR LED. How do I know? Well I was at a friends house that has a Apple LCD and we noticed (accidently) that when her camcorder was aimed at the LCD (where the touch sensitive button is) you could see a LED fading on and off, but it's invisible to human eyes--must be IR.

From what I've read about LiIon batteries they actually really really like to be charged, so charge it always! As I understand it the best way to extend their life is to keep them above 80% charged as much as possible. That doesn't mean that it'll ruin them to use them below 80%, it's just healthy to keep them above that. Other than that just enjoy it!
