It seems to me that my meter might be reading high.

When reading the resting voltage of Energizer L91 Ultimate cells, it reads 1.80V when most people say it should be 1.7v. When reading Eneloops fresh off the charger, I get 1.40V (and 1.37 after they've been sitting for a week) when most people say that they put out 1.2V. When reading brand new Duracell Ultra Alkalines, I get 1.63v when they are supposed to be 1.5v.

The even stranger thing is that it reads my AW 14500 as a perfect 4.17v right off the Pila charger. This seems to be correct to me, unless my Pila is terminating lower than it should.

Are these voltages normal or is something wrong? I put a brand new 9V battery in the meter, FWIW. The brand is Pro-Kit.

All of those readings sound perfectly normal to me. Those voltage readings you are quoting are nominal voltage, open circuit voltage is different. Fresh alkalines should test over 1.6V and fresh lithium AA's should test over 1.75V. NIMH AA's fresh off the charger should test over 1.4V and the voltage will fall quite quickly to the 1.38-1.4v range.

Quoting you:
it reads my AW 14500 as a perfect 4.17v right off the Maha charger. (he meant Pila)

I certainly hope that was a typing error !

Edited :
OK , I see you changed your error to Pila .... so I removed my warnings that are now no longer needed .

(and most NEW Alkalines cells do read 1.63v..... rather than 1.50 )

I cant recall a MaHa charger that will do 14500 Li-Ion cells .

Yes ... they are AA size ... but DON'T do em on a MaHa charger . MaHa' s are wrong for Li-Ion chemestry !

Someone else chime in here , please . I'm not wrong am I ?

Doh, meant to say Pila. Sorry about that!

It should read 1.80 V.

An Eneloop fresh off the charger should read about 1.45 V.

When reading brand new Duracell Ultra Alkalines, I get 1.63v when they are supposed to be 1.5v.
Brand new alkalines should read more than 1.6 V. Brand new zinc-carbon cells should read almost 1.7 V.

The even stranger thing is that it reads my AW 14500 as a perfect 4.17v right off the Maha charger. This seems to be correct to me, unless my maha is terminating lower than it should.
That seems to be about right.

Yes, all your readings are very normal.
