I LOVE 1x18650 lights. I will not own a 1x18650 if it has a maximum voltage of 4.2v. I don't know why it is, but I simply will not carry a light if I cannot pop in my spares in my truck (4x123a), or simply buy spares for it at the local pharmacy (to bad they don't carry 18650's...)
I love the idea of the Zebralight SC60, but because it only takes 18650's, I won't buy it because I won't carry it. On top of the ability to run at 6V, it's even worth it to me to be able to run the light off of 2xRCR123 at a slight lumen hit on 4.2v. My favorite light right now is a Surefire C2 running a Malkoff M61. I bought the M61 fully intending to run it at 75% on a 17670 everyday, but with the option of poping in RCR123's (I usually have them in one of my other lights in my truck/desk) or 123a's should the need present itself. I will not buy a Nailbender 6v max drop-in because that would limit me on my battery choices.
How about you, do you opt for the performance hit on 18650 lights by choosing the 9V max option over the 4.2v max?
