Hi everyone.

I was wondering. Is there anything that is hand held, and let's say.... less than the 4D M*g in length, that is Brighter than the Surefire M6 Guardian?

I don't mean to include things like the Thor (i have one), the X990, or the Beast. I just mean "normal" flashlights. "Normal" CAN also include some CRAZY mod anyone has done with a 1185 bulb.

Thanks.

So you are saying the 3D m*g, with 9 nimh AAs, and the 1185 is around 600 lumens?

Whats the run time on something like that?

Edited to reflect the RIGHT numbers.

The Mag85 is Give or take, about 800 lumens, fresh off the charger probably much brighter, the issue with giving lumens on the Mag 85 is it is entirely dependent on what batteries you use. Some run longer but dimmer, some run much brighter much shorter. Most 9 AA stacks drive the 1185 at around 800 lumens

More information on the Mag85 can be found

Custom made by me. With a 50W MR16 bulb, about 700 lumens for 40 minutes. With a 35W bulb, 500 lumens for about an hour.

Both the Tigerlight and The maglight when modified to use the 1185 are supposed to put out around 1200 bulb lumens and over 800 out the front.

theSurefire,

Your numbers are off. The 1185 puts out 1100-1200 bulb lumens, about 800 out the front.

Running good AA's (9 of 'em) in a Mag3D, it will run for roughly 30-35 minutes at close to that brightness, easily swamping the M6. The Tigerlight mods with the 1185 will do roughly the same, but for shorter duration.

The Aurora, the first of the Superlights, was based on a modified Mag3D, which though it LOOKED stock, put out from 2000-4000 bulb lumens, running for 10-15 minutes. There are now several variants, including the Mule, and FPninjas light, which are intended for production and will have the same kind of outputs, though in slightly different bodies.

The MagCharger60 will put out nearly the same Lumen output as the M6, with more throw, but not as pretty a beam. The Tigerlight mods based on the WA 1111 will also and have a very smooth beam, almost Surefire like.

The are LOTs of brighter lights than the M6, but it is an incredible light, beautifully manufactured, but expensive to run!

The Tiger85 does put out more light than my M6, at least in multiple ceiling bounce tests.

You are right, however, that though there are lights brighter than the M6, the M6 is a nice work of machining and lighting tech. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That and the M6 can be dropped down a flight of stairs and still function just fine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

There is always something brighter, unless of course you gotta a Sleeper /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wanted an M6 for the longest time. Finally got one. Exceedingly pleased!

Now if that M6-R pack ever gets done...

Hola is burning a hola in my wallet supporting all those 123's /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif There's a whole lot of those exact sentiments goin' around! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Larry, *yours* is cheaper per minute of runtime, so cy is the poor man here /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif

Uh, Bernie,

I have 2 M6's and only one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/faint.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif (I was agreeing completely with everything cy said!)
