Is this normal?

I just received my package of XR-E for a Cateye upgrade and noticed one of the LED has what looks like a crack in the emitter dome. Am I correct to assume this will cause problems with beam quality if it actually works?

The emitter on the right has a broken dome. Not having seen one in person, I don't know how it will affect the output of the LED. No this is not normal.

Dome...

There is some Articsilver compound smeared on the dome after messing around with it. Initially I thought I had smeared some on the dome but after wiping the dome with a q-tip I realized it is a crack or something. Messing around with it since then I have made a mess with the Articsilver. I didn't have any Artic Alumina and was going to see how the Articsilver would work but I have since ran into another problem so I will clean the one good emitter up and wait until the AA comes in to finish the project. Is it worth making a claim with DX for a new emitter? I bought one extra just for such. Thanks for the info. GD

Re: Dome...

You could try, but I've not had much luck with CS at DX. I'm "still" waiting on a driver board I ordered last year that was listed as "ships in 2-3 days" when I ordered it, but later was changed to "back-ordered." I've tried their "customer love" to get a different item, but to no avail. I just chalked it up as $5 gone... Good luck with whatever you end up doing.
