or have I been sold a fake or is it a new name for them?

The box lid says 64217 65W - PX26d and the same details are printed on the base but the cap is silver not black.

Yep, that's the one! I have them in my car. Work great!

Looks like both Osram and Flosser will both drop these 65W bulbs. Instead, they are following Philips in offering 80W ones.
Confirmation?

Edit:
-Virgil- is positive that there is no need to hoard them.

Flosser's "80w" bulb is in fact the same as Osram's "65w" bulb -- they are both an H9 with an H7 base. About 65w at 12v in both cases. Just a difference in labelling. I'm not aware of any proposed change in the Osram bulb, and there's nothing different about it in the latest product sheets, where are you getting your info?

When I log into the main German Osram catalogue, updated just a few days ago, I see there is no "former" 64217; it's still listed as a lamp presently in production. Looking closely at the specs of the 62261SBP I suspect if anything it's just a spiff-up rebrand of the 64217, perhaps because the off-road market regards bigger numbers as better, and all the other makers brand their off-road H7 as "80w". I will try getting a hold of some 62261SBPs; it will be very quick and easy to tell for sure.

I briefly looked at that new catalog posted in the above link, and did not see either the 75w/70 nor the 85w/80 H4 off road bulbs listed......did Osram discontinue making those,or did I miss them listed somewhere in that new catalog?

Osram routinely puts out catalogs that do not contain everything they make. I have to keep four catalogs from different countries and different dates on my desk if I want to have a reasonably complete (paper) listing of all their automotive bulbs.

And is the Osram Rallye still the best way for me to get a major improvement in low beams as a simple replacement ?

Replacing stock Halogens on a car ?

I replaced my stock H7 with these and wow they really are a night and day difference.

That depends on exactly what kind of vehicle you have, and which headlamps it's equipped with, and what condition they're in. The 65w H7 is not a universal "throw it in just any ol' lamp that takes an H7" thing.
