Re: Jet Beam JET II IBS Diode upgrade?

I don't remember what bin, but it is a early NW. I like the light enough to have spent good parts of 2009-2011 locating 6 spares. It is one of those lights I like using and having around. The Mag-esque candle mode can be very handy. It was also a very popular light at my work. If you keep your O-rings maintained, the light is very waterproof. I hope you enjoy yours.
So I'm very lucky to have won one :)
Ok will buy emitter now. Can't wait. I'll get a xp-L just to try out too.

Please let us know how the mod turns out. The original XRE opening makes so many emitters usable. :)

For sure. Thanks for helping. It will be a while until things arrive. Normally it's 2 weeks.

Yeah. But now I'm thinking of getting an extra jet II ibs as a back up, like you have. Cause I already like the light. More power = more like. Haha

They are out there, CPFMarketplace and patience. Also, a former coworker( I just retired this year) recently located two, NIB from a Thailand JB distributor. I found one, like new, display model buried under pistol magazines at a Florida gun show. The looking was always fun for me.

Cool ill have a look

I got a NW and a CW. The CW will give more lumens, so will try out both and see which I like the most.

Re: Jet Beam JET II IBS Diode upgrade?

Ok. So I've upgraded to a XP-G2 S2 2B. According to data it should be putting out between 558-595 lumens. And it's definetly 50% brighter than original by eye guess. It's my favorite light now and I have a few really cool ones.
It doesn't have that blueish tint anymore, its more to a warm white, even though specs say its a Color temperature: 5700-6100K Tint: Cool white.
Comparing to my Jetsam RRT-01 XML2 which is the 600 lumens version, the Jet II I.B.S with the XP-G2 upgrade seems to be just as bright. (even though RRT-01 is floodier)
Comparing to my Olight S10 XML2 which is stated to be 400 lumens (selfbuilt had tested to be 490 lumens), the upgraded Jet II I.B.S is brighter. :)
So my guess would be in the 550 lumens on this little upgraded guy? :p

It does heat up pretty quick now. The copper base is about twice as thick as the original emitter. And I've added a lot more thermal paste as it was pretty bad how much it had from factory.
The beam isn't as tight focused as the original but don't know it's just because I'm very close to the wall I tested. It's not dark here yet.
Here are some pictures of the steps i took. And a little trick for anyone who might do this mod. Instead of using a drill to get the plastic cap, heat up a needle until glowing red and just press through the plastic. It will be a much smaller hole and won't make it look damaged. When the read is removed.

Original Dioide has a nice lens, probably why it has such a good tight beam.

Awesome man, looks great! Glad it worked :) It does have a bigger hotspot but with that much increase in output I don't think it matters, it will throw just as far but just light up more :p

That looks amazing! Great mod! Clean work!
The candle mode ( with reflector removed ) will be really smooth now!

Yeah. It's amazing. So much light from a small package.
Thanks for your help on this. I was only able to get this done with the help people gave me on this post. :)

New Update [emoji14]

Initially I had it modded it to use a XP-G2 (6000k) and now modded it again with a XP-L V6 3C (4750k-5000k). At 1.5amps its rated to 735lumens, not sure if I'm getting all that, but definitely on par with the RRT-01 (600lumens version).
Im liking the warmer tint. Always been a 'cool white' guy. But the 4750k-5000k does look a lot better during the night when shinning on trees.

Its not as throwy beam as before, but still throws far and has a huge area of light. All this an fits in the palm of the hands.
Only downside is the run times which aren't very long. :(

I also got a Jet II Pro, but the head is different and I'm not able to open for mods. :(
Wanted to bump the XP-G2 diode on that one.

here are some pictures comparing the Jet II IBS modded (left) vs the Jet II Pro IBS stock(right)

JetBeam Jet II Pro XP-G2 - about 6 meters away. Very tight beam.

JetBeam Jet Pro XP-L - about 6 meters away. Same location as picture above, a lot more floody.

JetBeam Jet II Pro XP-G2 - shining at trees above, about 7 meters away, high beam.

JetBeam Jet Pro XP-L - shining at trees above, about 7 meters away, same location as above picture, a lot more floody.

As you can see, the XP-L has a lot more spill, but the amount of lumens more on it compensates for the throw distance. The XP-G2 is a lot more tightly focused with almost no spill.

The sc600 is a bit longer. But still find the Jet II such a good looking design.
Would be awesome to pump 1000 lumens from it. But it will run for 10 mins only if even with an imr 16340.
