I was surfing around Bug Out Gear when I saw that JetBeam was coming out with the Jet-II. Maybe I've been living under a rock or something, but this is the first I saw of it and it looks totally awesome!

Check it out:

So, needless to say, I've pre-ordered mine. Who else is planning on getting one of these sexy puppies?

I'm really curious about how the UI will work with so many levels / modes. I really am not one to complain about lots of extra modes and such... it just means more for me to play with.

Another question is this... how the heck are they getting so much light out of a single CR123??? Amazing. I couldn't believe it was only a single cell. Even the Fenix P2D Q5 is only 180 on turbo.

Anyways... please speak up and make some noise about this light... it deserves some more posts on CPF.

Make the sound of a dying giraffe if you are planning on buying the JetBeam Jet-II!!!

exacta-mundo... I was wondering the same thing.

That ring behind the head looks like a twisty adjuster ring doesn't it?

I looked at it earlier tonight...saw the ridiculous amount of levels and said...uhh no

Then I looked at it again when I opened your thread and noticed the U2 like ring...thats completely different...if thats the case well then you can count me in.

oh and its not avaible till nov 9th....

I know... November 9th can't come soon enough.

SIDE NOTE: I can't believe my 1st baby is due on November 3rd, and I'm still thinking about a flashlight coming out on the 9th! I guess I'm a true flashoholic. (not to imply I'm not excited about my baby... but I wonder how many lumens it will be... LOL)

210 rated 'emitter lumens', most likely. The actual output out of the head of the light might be less, but probably still pretty powerful. From the looks of it, at least the feel of the light will be superb.

yalskey: Congratulations on the new addition. I would definitely suggest celebrating by buying the new JetBeam Jet-II.

Thanks swxb12 (if that is your real name) LOL

Yeah... I know about the whole emitter lumens thing, but just about everyone else in the industry (I know SF is an exception) is rating their stuff on eLumens now-a-days. So just for comparison sake, it's a good number to use.

The P2D Q5 I compared it to is also rated with eLumens, so it's an apples to apples comparison.

But whatever, I'm sure it will burn the ability to see color out of my poor eyes once I'm dumb enough to shine it into them repeatedly! :)

A true flashaholic would name his child Cree, Rebel, Lux or Lumen

The new Jetbeam basic UI looks way better, but still the overall package is not worth the money IMO. Getting rid of PWM by the looks of it is also a big plus. But having a reverse clickie and that useless advanced mode is just destroys any motivation to pay $70. Maybe DX will get their hands on a batch of Jetbeams again. :grin2:

I love my Jetbeam pre-Cree AA light, but:

1. Buying without knowing the beam shape is only for dedicated collectors

2. I'm concerned about the UI. One mode seems overly complex (10% increments in brightness are pointless anyway) and the other doesn't have a mid level, which is where you usually want to be. The classic 10%-60%-100% makes much more sense than the new 100%-5%-strobe. 60% can burn a lot longer than 100%, but often it's hard to tell the difference. (Light bounced back will be a 4th root...)

Still remembering a JetBeam rep slamming an early group buy as though it were illegal, and calling CPF "absurd".

I donated my light from that group buy to offset overhead, since I suddenly had no more interest in owning one.

After that nonsense, they'll have to really impress me.

Not there yet.

The interface seems to be the same as the MkIIx, which means it won't be controlled via the "U2 selector ring" but clicking instead.

There's a thread in the marketplace under Dealer's Section about Jetbeam's new products and I think there's some discussion there. I avoided the MkIIx because of the complex interface.

You can actually just stick to the daily/simple mode and all is well BUT for the MKIIx, when you switch off in Low, it goes to Advanced Mode. That's a pain for me as I use low quite often. If this is the same interface, its a no-go for me.

The thread in the Marketplace is huge, and has answers to most of the questions here.

My understanding of the interface is:

It's all via clicky - no selector ring.

It has two modes: "daily" and "advanced"

To switch from daily, you turn the light to low, wait 4 seconds and there's a flash; within the next 2 seconds, turn the light off and back on and you'll be in advanced mode.

To get out of advanced mode, go to a strobe, wait 4 seconds and turn off and back on within the next 2 seconds and you're in daily.

Switching levels within a mode is done via soft-press on the tailcap.

It's a reverse clicky.

All that being said... I'll be getting one, but I'm not pre-ordering. When they tell me it's in stock and shipping, they can have my PayPal - but not before.
