For submission to the Reviews section.

I recently purchased a reinvented Nitecore D10 from JHanko. The purchase thread can be found here.

The function of the light is identical to that of a stock Nitecore D10, but that's where the similarities end.

Here's what's different:

  • Made of 6Al4V Titanium
  • Crenelated Bezel
  • 2mm UCL lens
  • 7 Blue Trits (6 around the body, 1 in the piston)
  • Drastically different design
  • Length of the body

Here's a look at the light

Compared to some other common items: Left to right are an AW RCR123, WE AA, EX10, D10, JHanko D10. The D10 is slightly taller due to the crenelated bezel and the 2mm UCL lens.

The led is, for now stock, and very cool. This will be changing as soon as I get some Q3-5A Cree's in :naughty:

A look at the led:

A look at the led on at minimum setting, just for the fun of it.

A look at the handle and the trits in the light. The grooves and narrower diameter of the grip make the light even easier to hold onto than the fully knurled stock light. The body is a bit thinner than stock, but as it's made of Ti, it's most likely still stronger. The head and tail of the light are both slightly thicker than stock.

There are 6 trits around the body...

and 1 trit in the piston.

Here's what they look like in the dark :D

The grooves in the head also make for a very grippy light

The clip is also very nice, and one thing that really sold the light for me. One thing to notice is that the screw holes for the clip are not drilled completely through. This makes for an extra nice finish on the end. The torx head screws are a nice touch too.

The build quality of the light is fantastic, leagues above any light I've previously owned. The stock body doesn't hold a candle to it. All surfaces are beautifully machined, and the light just has a good feel in your hand, like it belongs there.

Here's a shot of the threads. The threads were buttery smooth with the Krytox that JHanko lubed it with, but as is my habit anytime I get a new light, the first thing I did was clean and re-lube it. Big mistake. The Magnalube-G I've been using on my lights with positve results just didn't get along well with Ti. I have some Krytox 50/50 on order that should get me back to the original smoothness.

Of all the replacement bodies I've seen so far for the Nitecore PD series of lights, JHanko's is the first I've seen to retain momentary functionality. The piston is isolated by means of Kapton tape at the open end, the oring at the button end, and a thin piece of plastic beween the piston and the tail end of the light.

The stock piston has been capped with a Ti cover as well, for a uniform finish.

Here's a look at the very familiar D10 guts, in their new home:

This light has become my instant favorite, and is never more than arms reach away.

Update: 2-27-2009 - Got in some Krytox 50/50. It smoothed out the threads considerably, but couldn't quite get the light back to it's original buttery smoothness. I'll be picking up some Krytox GPL205 (the same stuff JHanko used on the light) which should put it back to square one. I'm trying to set up a group buy, if anyone is interested.

Update: 3-30-2009 - Lubed with Krytox Grease, and I'm back to the original extra-smooth action :D

SWEEEET! Tekno.

You have the coolest D10 out there for sure. Make sure you carry that thing and dont turn it into a shelf queen , that would be a shame. The world needs to see that work of art!!

Thanx for posting the pics

That light blew my mind the first time I saw it. And it was nice to see a clip for a change.
I hope he plans to make more.

I'm told he has a couple more coming, when he can get more stock D10's, but they may already be sold :D

I was a fan of his first few Ti D10s, but I think this one has put him on the map.

Sorry to bump an old thread like this but are there any more of these available or becoming available? I want one so badly!!

Why don't you ask JHanko? :poke:
Ti D10s are customised, not stock.
