Help Support Candle Power:

Well, the light came from Ledtronics today and I cannot recomend it. I beleive it just doesn`t have a resistor in it. Based on that thought I put it in my 3 D Mag and it is brghter than my Baton light which is also a 3 led light. And believe it or not it`s not as blue. So thats were it`s home shall be. At three volts it was a little brighter than my sad Infinity. And not as bright as my good one. Bottom line...it`s probably brighter than most three Led replacement 4.5 volt bulbs that have a resister in thier base, but as a three volt replacement forget it. I feel it is misrepresented by Ledtronics...sorry to get your hopes up Bear.

First the thank you's
Telephony: thanks for the picture (nice captioning)
KenB: Thanks for the advice - and don't worry I'm used to dissapointments

Now...

What "bulb" would this be?

Bear, you might try calling John at Ledcorp. He made me several 3 volt replacement bulbs 1 yellow, one red and one green. He might even make it in a screw in for you. Keep in mind the one`s you see on his web site are for 4.5 volt up and won`t work at three. I would try to see if he would make you a 3 led yellow. Just a thought.

Very Interesting...

I tried to call them, nobody home, I'll try next week.

Chris M or Craig (or anyone for that matter), Do you know if LEDcorp bulb will work in my poor old splash lite? The info stated 3 cell light, but no voltage rating. Also on some of the LEDtronics info it stated that the bulbs were for alkaline batteries. Does this make a difference?

The 3-cell bulb is for 4.5 volts or thereabout, and the 4-cell bulb is for 6 volts. Perhaps you could get a 6 volt Lithium battery inside your light and use the 4-cell bulb? I`ve not had much experience with lithiums yet but I`m led to believe there is a small cylindrical lithium cell avaliable that is 6 volts. Perhaps it would fit in place of the larger 123 with a little padding round it? Though the capacity is almost certainly less than a 123 so runtime wouldn`t be as good.

Actually I`ll add my support to the suggestion of using TLYH180P yellow/amber LEDs if amber (low-pressure sodium type colour) light is OK. Perhaps if you are able to do it, take the original bulb (or an old dead one with the same screw base), remove the glass part and cement inside, and solder 3 or 4 of the LEDs into it. Others who`ve fitted white leds into a PR base will be able to advise you how to do it, I havn`t done anything like it yet. Make sure they`re the right way round first, ie check- is the button contact + or -?
One LED wouldn`t be too bright compared to the incandescent bulb but 3 or 4 would be much better. They give a bright 8 degree beam with some peripheral spill too.

Just a thought- any use?

If this is the one markedted by NDS, and I believe it is, I have to agree with KenB. It's good enough for walking the dog (I can see his... ah, "gifts" that he leaves, and the cars can definitely see me (because the white LED light is so different from the sodium-arc lights), but the flashlight is hopelessly drowned out by the ambient light of my suburban neighborhood. The Turtlelights (both I and II) were better.

For my money, I'd go with a replacement "bulb" from LEDCorp instead.
