I find this place, and all of a sudden my Benchmade and blade "issue" (as my wife labels it) has become a partner with a torch "need."

Before I found this place, I had an E2D, a Streamlight TwinTask 2L, and of course a venerable Mag 2AA (with the Nite-Ize tailswitch and LED conversion) so I suppose the potential of having this "problem" was already seeded...

I picked up a 6P LED the other day, specifically because it's a tank and a good place to start...

I was wondering what the juries here would say are the first five things one might do to "enhance" a 6P LED... I'm already eyeballing how to end my dependence on landfill fodder cells... this place is a gold mine.

Thanks for the input, and the huge community of people who understand my issues... heh..

The first thing I did to my 6P was change the tailcap. The stocked tailcap is momentary on, twist for constant on. I purchased the SF Z59 clicky tailcap. They retail for about $40, but you could usually pick one up from the marketplace here for about $28. Whether you want to upgrade this depends on your needs. I don't really like the momentary feature, so I upgraded mine.

Since you already have the LED version, there may or may not be a purpose of upgrading it. But the 6P is a great light since many manufacturers make P60 dropin modules. Gene Malkoff makes M60, M60L and M60LL dropins which have 240+,140+,80+ lumens, respectively. You could get it from his website: http://www.malkoffdevices.com/shop2/index-main_page-index-cPath-1_8.html, There are other places that carries LED Dropins such as BugOutGearUSA, and PTS-Flashlights. These three seems to be the best ... at least from what other members have said. I only have the Malkoff M60 and I love it. If you are intersted in finding compatible P60 dropin, there's a whole thread that's dedicated to it (http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=193992).

If you upgrade your LED module, you may be able to run RCR123a 3.7v rechargable Li-Ion batteries. Just make sure you read about the safety for handling Li-Ion batteries and make sure the LED module is compatible with the voltage (2 x RCR123a @ 3.7v = 7.4v).

Other than that, I can't really think of anything else you could do to change it. The 6P is a really great light. Hope this helps

I could see adding a 235 lumen drop-in... :)

I need to search the archives, but will also be looking to upgrade the incandescent bulb in the E2D, but don't want to change the profile as much as the OpticsHQ head does... would love input on that as well!

I'm not too familiar with the available options for the E2D. I know SF released the new E2DL. Right now you could buy the single-stage with 120 lumens. If you look around the marketplace, you probably could pick up the head alone for a reasonable price. Besides that, you'll have to wait for other members to chime in.

I added a Leef McClicky to my 6P that also has a Malkoff M60 in it - love it, I didn't like the "only momentary" back switch. The clicky has momentary, and click-on features. I got mine at Lighthound. That said, a two-stage clicky would be nice, and I have been considering one - the ability to have a less-bright option on the light would be quite nice - the Malkoff M60 is one bright mother.

There are some nice crenelated bezels out there as well, I have been considering one of those as well - I like the Lighthound SS bezel for this light.

The Malkoff is a jaw-dropping difference. If you can get one, go for it.

There are many LED drop-ins for P60 style lamp accepting lights. xcel730 has the thread linked.

As for the E2D, I'm not sure of any LED drop-ins though there are a few LED heads and there are people who can modify the lights to suit your needs.

My setup

SF 6PD "Denfender", Malkoff M60, When at home I have a Surefire FM35 "Red" flip cover so when I check on the kids at night I dont wake them up....When EDC out of the house I take the Flip-up off..I also have a horizontal holster for the SF...

I'll start by saying I hate all you guys. A couple weeks ago I couldn't believe I spent $40 on an Inova XO. I was blown away by my first "high-quality" LED flashlight. Had I not found this forum I would have been absolutely tickled with its performance for years....

Thanks to you guys I went out and bought a 6P LED... at more than twice the price I paid for the XO!

What the hell is wrong with me!? Ha!

I second xcel730 on the Malkoff - it one of those things in life that is just damn near perfect. I have other drop-in's that are far cheaper and give a similar amt. of light, but I like the Malkoff's beam a LOT more.

I can also vouch for the Malkoff M60, as well as the Leef tailcap. It makes it a great combo, and with that tailcap it can tailstand as well. It might take a while to get the M60, but it's truly worth it.

davedds-- what kind of horizontal holster do you have? I've been looking for a holster for my 6p and this has piqued my interest.

I upgraded my emitter in my 6PL Defender with a BOG Cree Premium drop in. The Mark III eyeball indicates P90 like performance. I keep the P60L in my SC1. The good thing about the BOG drop in is when it falls out of regulation it falls hard and fast so you know when to change the batteries. I rotate my semi-used batteries into this light. That is when its time to change the batteries I put fresh cells in my E2e or E2d and use the used ones in my 6PLD.

Has anyone ever bought from allteamgo on ebay? Advertising a 290 lumen cree...

I purchased from allteamgo and never got anything from flea bay again if that says anything. you will most likely find the same module at dealextreme.com for cheaper but you are still better off getting a good module like a BOG, wolfeyes, or malkoff.

Just the kind of feedback I was looking for. Thanks!

I'll be saving for the Malkoff, or just jumping in on a BOG... any thoughts on the three "levels" of drop-ins from them?

I just ordered two of the inexpensive Romisens from Dx... RC-F4 and RC-G2. I wanted to limit myself to $25, and see what happened when the lights came... :)

The 290 lumens is hyped up. I bought the 290 lumens R2 lamp on eBay for $20 just to test it out. It had a wider spill than the M60, but brightness is about the same in my eyes (the difference is too close to distinguish). After playing with it for 10 minutes, I sold it off at the marketplace. The second owner said the lamp blew out on him in 2 weeks. I didn't see it myself, but I trust that the second owner didn't say it to deceive me since he didn't even ask for his money back.

I like single mode for my C/P body surefires but thats just me. I have the M60 in my C2 and a M60LL in a G2 both running on AW's 123's the M60 is very bright almost to bright at times but thats what the LL is for. The M60LL is slightly brighter than a P60L but has more throw, longer regulated runtimes, runs cooler and a tint that is not blue.
