It is bigger than I thought it would be, and it doesn't throw a focused spot beam, it's more of a "floody" light, but man, does it put a lot of light out. I also like the different settings. The low setting is about right for a low setting and the med setting is great for around the house serching for things you misplaced in the garage (long story). The high setting is pleny bright to let you see darn near anything you need to, and Turbo mode will let you look a little into the future.

Ive picked up around 23 flashlights this year and havent had to replace a single battery yet.It doent seem to be much of an issue so far which is great. Maybe next year things will start to even out some :)

Awesome pics! Be careful what type of batteries you use, I used the energizer rechargeables in it when I got it, and went through two sets because each time I had a battery that leaked. So, I got 16 Eneloops and have been using them for some time now, completely draining them twice and I haven't had a single problem. Enjoy it!
I love the brightness of Tk-40 i also love the price to. The fact that it takes AA batteries make it a good survival tool ( remember 123's are imposible to find in a vilage minimarket ) i also have a solar AA charger meaning that is never gonna be a dark camping night. Tk-40 rocks...

Great choice. From what I hear, the Duraloops are pretty much the same thing as Eneloops.

Aside from the outside labels, they are 100% identical. I use both in my TK40 and all of my flashlights and they are worth every single penny. I initially resisted buying the Duraloops and Eneloops for my TK40 because I had a truckload of free Duracell alkaline AA batteries on my shelf and I wanted to experiment with different batteries, but in the long run they're a very worthwhile investment. Performance benefits aside, just the fact that they do not leak is all I needed to open up my wallet and buy them.
If anyone is considering a TK40, don't even mess around with other batteries and just follow the advice all over CPF and get either Duracell relabeled Eneloops ("Duraloops") or Sanyo Eneloop AA batteries. You won't regret it. ;)
Make sure that you're getting the real-deal Duraloops though. Read through CPF's batteries forum to tell the difference. Duracell also markets relabeled Ray-o-Vac NiMh AA batteries from China and those are not what you want. Also, there have been reports in the batteries forum of fake Eneloops on the market and widely sold by Deal Extreme. Read those threads before you buy your batteries because even the vendors can't tell the difference!

Let's say in a pinch I had to use alkaline batteries in my TK40.
Do you think if I just kept it off of turbo mode it would be better for the batteries and help prevent leaking?
I can't imagine that if I just kept it on high instead of turbo, that it would be too high of a drain on the alkalines.
I'd sure hate to have them leak in my $150 flashlight.

That would make sense to me, but I'll let others with more experience give their viewpoints.
What's scary about alkalines is that they can leak at any time, even when not being used. I know someone that had a brand new alkaline battery start leaking when it was left on a desk and not even installed in anything or being used. That plus all the rave Eneloop/Duraloop reviews on CPF were all that I needed to hear to convince me to shell out the bucks for some.
Yeah, imagine the pain of having a battery leak inside your TK40 - ouch! :( Because of that reason, I also exclusively use Duraloops/Eneloops in my trusty and no longer available Nikon F100 SLR camera. If an alkaline cell leaked in my TK40, I'd cry for a little while. If one leaked in my F100 I'd cry and whine for months on end! :D
Great phrasing, Mark. The TK40 can "throw" a big, fat, beam a long ways. Maybe tracking at least a twenty second run at sprint speed. Several hundered yards of bright light. That's almost future.
I really like mine, and have swapped out the first set of Eneloops used (for a lot of playing) for the Duraloops I bought at Costco. They went a long ways, not sure they really even discharged 50%. It's a bit chunky, but this thing will put out a cannon shot of light. I like the idea of blasting the photons, then changing to my spare set of batteries. I do wish that Fenix would offer a spare battery pack for a much faster swap. I bet all the LE types out there would go for that.
My best light of 2009 without a doubt.
