I bought this charger on recommendations from guys here and on another site I frequent. I am not really technically proficient when it comes to battery charging and chargers. Never really thought about there being any more too it than just charging and using them.

Almost all of the rechargeable batteries in AA and AAA are Energizer nmh. I know these are not great batteries, but they will do for a while until I upgrade to eneloops. I bought some eneloops from Costco that are going to run in my Fenix TK40 so I am getting my feet wet.

I used the refresh and analyze mode on the first 4 batteries. One battery was under performing badly, only taking about 1800mah of charge. Ran that battery on the same mode again and it took over 2300 mah. These batteries are almost all 2450 mah nominal.

Only a few of the batteries are charging all the way to the stated capacity. As I understand it, this is why this charger is so great. I can run the refresh and analyze mode again and get more charge into the battery.

I am not worrying too much about these batteries. Most of them are charging between 2300 and 2400 mah. I am only using these for emergency lights around the house. This little charger will run pretty much every weekend when I am home to get all of these batteries up to snuff.

No matter what I do with these batteries, they will eventually be replaced by eneloops. This is my opportunity to learn how to use this charger and learn what recharging high performance batteries is all about.

Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

Don't worry as much about the charge that goes into the cell (if the cell is partially charged at first it won't take much to top it off). The important number is the capacity. The Refresh and Analyze cycle will give you the actual discharge capacity at the end of the cycle (what it was able to take out). You can get that number also by doing a Discharge on a fully charged cell. You always have to put more mah into the cell when charging it than you can get out by discharging it. Most cells won't make the capacity printed on the label, so it sounds like yours are doing pretty well.
