Picked up a few of the big version from the Fenix Store. I was really looking for the small size but have not yet found a place to buy the smaller size.

Pros:
Strong - very thick and tough plastic
Round bottom - slides easily into a pocket or pack
Choice of colors or clear

Cons:
Round bottom - can't stand
Sharp nubbin on bottom - from the manufacturing process but easy to fix with a file
Costs more than it seems they should for a plastic tube and cap

In the end, despite the cons, I like them and will buy the other sizes when I find a store that stocks them.

I don´t know if there´s a shop in the US that sells them for what they really are but here in germany there is at least one. These tubes are blanks for PET bottles. You can use the screw-cap of an ordinary coke bottle for example instead of the one keep2go invented (and that´s indeed the only thing they made). At this shop you can buy these tubes without a screw-cap for just 55 euro-cent (small tube) and 65 euro-cent (big tube). It is exacly the same product just without a cap and you get the caps for free from any PET bottle.

I like these tubes as well but woulnd´t buy keep2go anymore since I can get 6 PET blanks for the price of a keep2go.

Really? That's interesting. I was going to order a few from the Fenix Store, but now I'll get to practise my German to decipher whether that store will take Paypal or not. They seem to have lots of other interesting stuff as well. Thanks for the link.

(Edit: If I understood correctly, they don't take Paypal or credit card. Oh well, I guess I'll have to get them from the Fenix Store, then.)

Will they hold 123's? If so, how many?

They hold 4.

You can get 1 Keep2Go with 4 Panasonic cells in it from Fenix-store for $15.00 in various colors.

As far as them being PET bottle blanks...

That's very interesting. I was watching "How It's Made" a little while back, and they were making soda bottles. I thought the blanks looked familiar.

Ya, we need a PET blank group buy. I googled and found a place selling them 500 in a case.

Also I was watching Mythbusters when they pull out a screw cap test tube which looked just like a PET blank, So I googled Test tubes and found a set of 6 with a rack for $6. Shipping is high on small orders but free over $75 of merchandise.

Anyway I have the Fenix 4 pack and notice that they are not all the same size in internal diameter or length.

The green one is too short and not wide enough for rechargeables. Which is a bummer because I wanted to use "green" for rechargeables.

I'm not sure if the size is related to the color or just random production variables.

Green: shorter and thinner. Not long or wide enough for RC123, 2x17670
Clear: Wider but shorter. Not long enough for RCR123, 2x17670
Lt Blue: Fine for all
Dark Blue: Fine for all

I was watching that "How It's Made" episode as well and had the same idea of using the blanks as storage containers. I wonder if the bottoms can be heated and flattened? A group buy would be a great idea. The loop-hole caps would also be good.

The loop cap is what makes the keep2go what it is. I think you are paying $5.50 for the cap and $0.50 for the tube.

At the Steve Spangler Science website (on vaca - link not handy), they have the blanks with caps in quantities of 15. They have a bigger inside diameter than the keep2go's and also a little bigger O.D. I got two packs and intend to share them with family / relatives plus, give some to nephews for science experiments (some experiment ideas are included!)

It's interesting that you found the keep2go sizes different - good to know.

The day after ordering a 4 pack of these from the Fenix store, I slapped my forehead and suddenly remembered what these are! :) The gentlemen above are correct. These are simply the blanks for soda or water bottles. The sharp nubs on the bottoms are the flashing left over from when they are produced.

Years ago I worked in a bottled water plant and these are the blanks that we heated and were blown into a mold to produce the actual bottles.

It is hard to justify the high cost however as these bought in bulk are pennies a piece. As cave dave alluded to, you are paying a high price for a novel cap! ;)

No matter as they are tough as nails and if you do lose the nice cap, you can substitute a water or soda bottle cap. Also, save your "pop-up" caps from your water or dish soap bottles and you'll have the "accessory cap" they list on their website, (but give no price for)! :)

Michael,
I wish I would have seen your link to those baby soda bottles before I ordered the Keep2Go! I ordered the 4 pack special but I really wanted all clear ones and the Fenix special only includes one clear. You got the REAL DEAL my friend! :)

I received the Keep2Go containers yesterday and I'm not all that impressed. They're as advertised but the ones I received really had some substantial, sharp flashing on the bottoms and it took awhile to get them smooth with a file. Even the caps had some flashing that needed to be removed. They're alright but certainly expensive but you do get that fancy cap! ;)

I don't drink much soda but I'm a notorious cap saver as I always find uses for them as lens caps, diffusers, etc. I tried some on the Keep2Go from water and soda bottles and some fit and some didn't.

DINLONG,
Thanks for the link. As Michael said, those look great.

If you know anyone who hombrews beer, White Labs yeast come in PET bottle preforms. Most homebrewers probably throw them away. Personally, I use a different brand of yeast that comes in different packaging.

I had a brewing friend give me a couple White Labs tubes. They are a tad bit shorter than the Keep2Go but have a bigger inside and outside diameter. without modification 4 batteries won't fit. But, you can make it just fit 4 primaries or 2 17670's in but you have to put the bottom one nipple down the other(s) nipple up and then you have to heat up the cap and press something into it to make a concave dimple so the nipple snugs up into it.

rCR123s would not fit.

I think that 18650s would fit just fine since they are shorter, and the tube has the width for them but I don't have any to try.

"cap2go" was listed as a new bluedesert product in the European OutDoor Expo; July 2007

"Cap2go"
Specially shaped cap designed to seal and hang your
"Keep2go" or any standard water bottle.

It would be nice if they were actually being sold seperately. Id imagine they would sell a higher volume but at a lower profit per unit. If they ramped up production high enough it would allow them to grow thier brand visibility and lower the cost of production. At least in theory...

I had a similar experience.......all were fine except the green one.
I inadvertantly put in 4 cr123 cells and tightened the cap.........now all of those cell are quite badly dented/pushed in on the -ve end.
Just glad i happend to put in some primaries instead of my rechargeables.
