I am a newbie to the forum, well actually I've been reading the posts for some time now but I just registered the other day and posted my first reply moments ago on the Homemade and Modified Lights section. Can't say I have spent any time on the Knife section but I recently purchased a Kershaw
Chive at Wally's World for $29.95.If you're not familiar with these knives they are excellent EDK's.There are also larger versions available and I am waiting for a combo blade Onion.Anyway I own several knives, nothing too esoteric, including some nice automatic knives and am very pleased with every aspect of my Chive. The one I got is a plain blade matte finish.Although I really wanted the boron coated black version I couldn't justify the price differential and after having this version for a few days I really like it.IMO the fit & finish is first rate, the form is very nice but the mechanism is awesome. These knives use a torsion assist opening system that is sweeeet
and best of all as I understand it the courts have ruled that since there is no spring these knives are not in the same category as automatic knives.Anyway I'm curious to hear what people think of these and if you aren't familiar with them the cost of admission is well worth it.

The Kershaw Chive is a real masterpiece of form and function, at a very reasonable price, too. I also own the slightly larger Kershaw Scallion. It's enough bigger to get a better grip for a tougher cutting job, but still fairly compact, and small enough not to be intimidating to people in the post 9/11 world. I just wish the Scallion had not used plastic inserts on the grip. The all stainless Chive is a much nicer looking knife, IMHO.

Whoops, I meant to say that I'm waiting for a Scallion.Scallion,Onion,Chives they all taste pretty much the same to me

Slick, I had the same experience the 2 times that I played with the Blackout. This is probably a good thing as I don't need to be buying more stuff!

What's really funny is that I just bought a couple of these yesterday.. I came to this forum to basically post what you already did!

I couldn't have said it better. This is a really nice compact knife and the speed-assist is nothing short of awesome. Plus I really like the fact that it has a safety to prevent it from "going off" in your pocket

I've seen some of the larger speed assist Kershaws, and I wasn't nearly as impressed with the speed assist on those knives - which is probably why I didn't notice any safety switch...

Does the "Scallion" have the same type of speed assist that the Chive has - in that you push the blade out from the back? I like that better than using the thumb stud.

According to the lit on line it is the same type as the Chive. I expect to receive 1 today and will verify.

The Scallion has the same bump on the back of the blade that allows for an 'auto' type opening. It's just a little bigger than the Chive, with black plastic, textured (sorta pebble grained, nice enough looking) grip panels. The plastic makes the grips thicker than the Chive as well, so it's easier to use. But I still like the looks of the all stainless Chive better.

Hi, bought a Black Chive about a week ago, been carring it next to my Ars AAA LE and the Boron coating doesn't show a mark. What a great little knife. Have one of the CRKT's , the one with the gold, which started coming off in two days, and is now about 50% gone in a month, besides having the lopsided angle on the blade, not happy as you can see. But you can't go wrong with the Chive or the Scallion. I was afraid that the black wouldn't hold up but see that fear was for naught. Chuck M.

Gandalf, You should check out the Scallion with the aluminum handles. Much nicer than the plastic handles, and in my opinion, a size thats easier to use than the chive.

I have both the steel handled Chive and nylon handled Scallion. I actually wish the Chive had a plastic handle version. I like the plastic Scallion very much, wish I had a smaller version - a Chive plastic. I also have the steel Amplitude, which I wish had plastic handles, and the plastic handled Oso Sweet, which has a lighter handle, but bigger & heavier blade.
