Has anybody seen this knive in real before? What locking mechanism does it have - how does it work?

Lots of comments welcome. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't remember the name of the system, but here's how it works (if I remember correctly, which I may not). See the little grooved area just under the thumb stud? That area is spring-loaded. When the blade is fully open, that area pops up under the thumb stud. That keeps the blade locked open. The thumb stud also serves as stop pin, sitting firmly against the handle when fully open.

Thanks for your input, guys.
1Shopkniveshop had them for around 270$, I must have missed that the whole thing has Ti-handles. As your description says, it is dead sexy.
Joe, have you handled a locking mechanism like that before?

Klaus.

Is this guy's locking mechanism similar to Benchmade's Axis lock?

Just curious...

BTW, I've got a Whirlwind, and the spring-action mechanism to open the blade is awesome! I really wished this spring assisted open was present on other blades...

Unfortunately, I haven't handled this lock. I'd love to put it through the torture test /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Falcon, read my description of the lock above -- it's definitely unique, nothing like the axis. There's a lot of companies coming out with locks that are either based on the concept of the axis (which in turn you can argue was based on the concept of the bolt lock), or are outright axis ripoffs, but this isn't one of them.

I just got the Whisper from 1SKS a few days ago.

I'll just say, that it makes my Benchmade 710 M2HS look dull...

This is, by far, the sexiest knife I've seen, and as with the Whirlwind, the Whisper's assisted open is a gem.

The one thing I will say, is that the locking mechanism for keeping the knife open seems a little suspect. In that, I mean I keep getting the feeling the little spring-tack lock seems a little too exposed, to where I can accidentally have it scrape something, spring it back in, and the knife would collapse on my fingers...

Maybe with use and time, I'll grow to trust that little lock, but for right now, I've used this knife to cut everything from tree limbs to envelope and vegetables, and it's sharp as hell, and performs just as I expect it to...

This is definately one knife that impresses a lot of people I've shown it to. I absolutely love it for the looks, the sharpness, the rigidity of the knife, and the assisted spring open...

Congratulations. Mind taking some pics and posting them, especially details on the locking mechanism?

The best way I can describe the locking mechanism is that the little thumb trigger is caught behind a spring-loaded rivet at the edge of the knife in the last photo, and that rivet springs out after the thumb trigger passes it, and locks the thumb trigger in place, and thus the knife from collapsing. Otherwise, what keeps the knife from collapsing the other way is what can best be described as a non-moving axis lock, as with that found in the Benchmades, and the blade rests very securely on this axis lock when its opened.
