Which is brighter, the Badboy 500 or the KL1, assuming fresh batts in each light? My friend just got the badboy, and it's awesome. But of course I'd like to 1 up him, if you know what i mean.

Battman,

The BB500 drives a Luxeon at 500 mA. The KL1 drives the Luxeon at around 360 mA. If the BB500 has a Q rank LED, it should be brighter. If the BB500 has a lower flux rank, it may still be brighter, equal to or dimmer than the KL1. This statement is also based on the BB500 using a collimator as the KL1 does. When it comes to Luxeons, I think the CORRECT statement is that Your Mileage WILL Vary.

EDIT: Since both the KL1 and BB500 have constant current regulation, the freshness of the batteries is not significant provided they are not depleted to the point of the circuits dropping out od regulation.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Don,

Could you explain the LED ranking system, or point me toward a source of this info? I'm almost completely ignorant of this subject, and suspect I'm not alone!

Thanks,

Brightnorm,

See: Luxeon Binning Info

This information has likely been shared many times but with Ground Hog Day syndrome.........

Too bad the forum didn't have some type of reference forum where stuff like this could be kept.

EDIT: should have known Doug would beat me to this!!

Mine appear to be about the same brightness (this with my eyes and is in no way a scientific way of measuring) however the KL1 has a much nicer tint. They are both great products.
