KL1 with Luxeon-V

Help Support Candle Power:

i think that is because the circuit output can only go up to 5V or less, which makes the 5W underdriven, no matter what you put on it(current drive, etc)

sorry the dumb question, but once you cracked it open isn't it doable to change the driver to a BadBoy without too much trouble?

yup yup, you can actually change the driver to a BB, so you STILL can have the KL4-SG /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
just need to de-solder the 2 leads that were holding the board in place (i did not know this and was destroying the board in the process /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif )

if you willing to sell the original board, shoot me a pm /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's a compromise, but I suppose you could come close with a Lux3 because its Vf is still within range.

yea,
boost your KL1 and feed it with Lux 3, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yeah, but EVERYBODY has a Lux-III KL1, nobody has a Lux-V KL1. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That's exactly how I got a KL4 board (from a guy who modded a KL4/downboy/lux3) and now i do have a KL4 in a KL1 host with so17 reflector.

uh oh, some one beat you, tyler /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I just cannot understand why one would use 5W on KL1 head? the small reflector it can fit already a justification of not use it to host 5W. IMHO, 5W should be placed in anything with reflector the size of PR or larger.
