I´ve decided to make my Pila GL2 my user from now on. I put in a Lumens Factory 3.7V Cree R2 drop-in and use it with either 17670 or 18650 rechargeables. Really bright, lots of runtime and feels much better in my hands than my former user, a Surefire C2. The only thing I´m missing is the possibility to attach a lanyard.

Has any of the Pila users attached a lanyard to the slick *** of his GL2, GL3 or GL4 and might share a picture? Or any ideas how to attach a lanyard - secure?

Wow- beautiful pictures and a beautiful setup.:D You're giving me GL2 envy, now I want one!

The best option I've come up with is to tie a cord where the TC and head taper down to the midsection. That or you can tie a small diameter cord on one of the three "grip" cuts along the body. Unfortunately there aren't many options, wish I could come up with something more...

In looking at my GL2 I would imagine I would try finding a metal ring of some sort that would fit around the body but not slip off over the head/tail. The only issue I see with that would be the fact that it would likely mess with the anodizing. I will have to try and figure out another method. You could always try emailing Pila and see if they have any suggestions you could capitalize on. Don't forget to post the outcome if you do.

@dudemar: The GL2 is really an excellent light. Very well balanced. I've only briefly used a GL4 and other than that not touched any other Pila lights, but I really enjoy my GL2. The only complaint that I have at the moment is the hard nub style negative contact for the batteries. It has a slight tendancy to damage the cathode(?) of the cells I use if I drop the light at all. I'd like to try my new Tenergy LiFePO4 cells, but I am afraid I will damage them. Currently they sit unused. I need to find something else to review.

Thanks AardvardSagus, my eye's definitely on one. They are basically shrunken-down versions of the GL3. Since I've only handled the GL3, it's hard for me to contemplate just how small it is!

I know it's a little OT, but while we're talking about Pilas has anyone seen the new Parat X-treme lights they're manufacturing? Very cool!

Off Topic:
I have looked a little at those lights. I would expect more info to start showing up around the time of the SHOT show...

On Topic:
I wonder if anything can be done to attach a lanyard with heat shrink tubing?

I'm not sure of the best way to hook the lanyard up to the light unfortunately, but I did want to pass this forward since it strikes me as a meme worth spreading. cy mentioned that he has found the ultimate lanyard:
the BEST lanyard hands down... came on Infinity Ultra G...many times I'd buy the Infinity light just to get the lanyard.

Post #53 in this neat thread here.
:D

Well, I made it. After going throug all my stuff I ended up with the lanyard attachment Rob is using with his Orb Raw and Wee. I had 4 of these left and one was too big, one was slightly too small and two were a good tight fit.

Im not quite sure if that´s the way I´ll keep it since it sticks out quite a bit and somehow disturbs the smooth form of the GL2. But I´ll carry it for a while and decide later.

@dudemar:
I´ve never heard of those Parat X-Treme lights before. Do you have more information or a link?
Here´s a pic I took a while ago to compare the GL2 and GL3 with a SF L5.

That's a cool looking flashlight!
There the ones you can buy a digital controller for with the blue LCD display.
Very nice, and I like how you got your lanyard fitted as well.

Eric,

Very cool pictures, thanks for the awesome comparison shot! Now I'm really tempted!

Parat is a German company that has their lights manufactured by Pila. They look very promising! Since you live in Germany it would be very cool if you can handle one!

Here's their webpage in German:

...and here's a Parat thread I started a while back:

I personally like the aesthetics of the GL2 better than the GL3 (from pictures). It just appears more balanced and compact.

Eric242: Excellent work with the lanyard attachment! That's just about exactly what I had in mind.

dudemar: I actually have looked into those Parat X-treme lights a little, but I am not at liberty to speak of it just yet...

I have big hands so the GL3 is perfect for me. In fact I have four of them! I still wouldn't mind getting my hands on a GL2...:twothumbs

Do you know something we don't know?:naughty:

This is how I've attached lanyards to my Pila lights:

...but I like Eric's system a whole lot better!

I have purchased a few lanyard rings (last year) from Lighthound.com for around $5. They slide on behind the threads between the body and tail cap for CR123 size lights. They also sell a wide variety of lanyard supplies to fashion your own (which I do). I love lanyards because I happen to have butter fingers, and tend to drop stuff all the time, and I hate dropping my lights.
By the way, I like the looks of the Pila, who sells them?
:candle::confused:

Eric,

I don't know if it'll work, but you can try putting an o-ring right next to the metal ring so it won't slide around.

That's how I did mine!

I have butterfingers too, but ironically lanyards just don't work for me.:sssh: I guess I get worried it's going to get caught on something. Weird, I know.:D

Glad you like it!:) Lots of places sell them, here's a short list:

http://www.pila-usa.com

http://www.fenixtactical.com/pila-products.html

In my opinion Flashlightz.com offers the best prices on Pilas though...

Hope this helps!

The steel wire, or what ever that thing exactly is, is so damn tight, it is not moving around at all. Even if I try to move it with my fingers it simply stays put :)

About the Parat light: I don´t think it will be easy to get my hands on such a light. Good lights are hard to come by over here in stores. You can get Fenix if you are lucky and surefire of course. I guess Parat might be available at stores that supply professional tools.
