The AC adaptor cord for my HP notebook (ZE-2113) but otherwise uses the same adaptor and battery for the DV-1000 recently developed a bad connection and shorted out right where the cord connects to the thing that plugs into the laptop.

I've cut the tip off since that section was melted and damaged already and stripped the end of the wires (co-axial) but the hard part is finding a new connector that I can solder onto the end of the cord. Does anyone know where I can find power connectors for laptops ? I've searched around but only found the input jack; not the end of the cord.

I would like to salvage my old adaptor anyway; a new one costs 70$

(This is for a MacBook PRO but it gives you an idea of where my cord broke)

The DV1000 uses a somewhat unique commector. Radio Shack has something that is close. HP uses the same connector on many of their adapters. Look for an old HP printer or fax adapter.

I'm not familiar with those models, is that a pavilion or omnibook?
I've repaired a few omnibooks and the connectors are available in digikey.

It's a Pavilion series.

Ok, I didn't work with many of them so I can't say. The company I worked for was geared toward business machines so we didn't work on many of the home machines except for those business trying to use them. if the adapter is the same as the Omnibooks then the connector is available from www.digikey.com.

A friend spliced his adaptor wire by "accidentally" running the adaptor plug over with his roller chair a couple times before noticing it:ohgeez:

he fixed it by routing wires out from the power socket by opening the computer case, cutting out the socket and ran wires out the hole and used another adaptor on the end of the wires...
