Read that again... The POWER SUPPLY can deliver 100 watts of power to the head, its not producing that.

The other one is using existing ND:YAG technology as its backbone. The only interesting things about it are its power supply, and outrageous price. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

In my opinion lasers will never become effective weapons, you just need to have reflectors all over you or shields to bounce the beam back....... Drive round in viechles coated on chrome etc etc......

A friend of mine who is an avid gun collector/enthusiast told me about some interesting research on weapon based lasers.

They put a lot of R&D into laser sniper rifles. Nothing was mobile by any means, massive generator, but they were able to get one hell of a shot off. Ill ask him next time I see him what the pulse power output was. He stated the main problem was the "smoke" produced from the target being incinerated creating a cloud that effectively diffused the energy being delivered to the target.

One of the newest "initiatives" they have now is COIL (Chemical Oxygen Iodine Laser)

It's looking like it will shape up pretty well. And with the pulse power it produces it doesnt matter how many mirrors you hide under. The amount of energy destroys the glass and atomizes the silver/reflective surfaces quicker than it can disapate the heat.

Ever seen the movie "Real Genius"? The weapon displayed in the movie could be a reality with this technology, only its not a purple beam.
