Has anybody of you guys experience with using laserpointers in large halls with bright professional projectors? All I know is that my class 3a RadioShack red pointer (the 2 AAA type) has no chance to compete with the projection.

What do I need that will do the job? I do not care about red or greeen - just something safe that does not break my bank. Anybody some first hand experience he's willing to share?

Thanks

I dunno - maybe you could try an Atlasnova Red??? It's be certainly brighter than the RatShack model. Although I don't know if it'd be bright enough to overcome your projector, most of the professors at Purdue use the RS Laser pointer in lecture halls of over a thousand students with no problems..

Nah, you need somthing with enough power that will make the screen start smoking if you leave in one place too long. Really makes an effective point...

I agree with comozo. A 5mw greenie is quite visible, even on a brightly lit screen. I use a greenie all the time when doing presentations and the audience has NO trouble finding the spot! :)

I use a 5mW Jasper Curve or Jasper Always for presentations in well lit rooms and projectors and those are more than adequate.

5 mW green seems to be the laser pointer of experts! Thanks for sharing your experience.

:lolsign: Considering the fact that projection screens are made for reflecting you're probably talking about a two handed model. This alone would make a lasting impression :grin2:

lol! yea, you need at LEAST a 4-wat laser! (JK!JK!!!)

I remember back when you used an extending stick quite like an antennia off an RC car to point out presentations...

Anyway, Back OT, yes, I agree, try a green pointer, lower mw green is more effective than a higher mw red

I agree, a 5mW green should be plenty for brighter indoor environments. I'd prefer to have a few different powers on hand, in green and red, so as to always have one that is suitable no matter what the occasion.

I like Ashton's idea though - wheel in a large-frame ion laser and tell your audience "I could not find my laser pointer, so I brought this. Don't make me have to use it." :grin2:

You know, I used to have a large oscilloscope on a wheeled cart; I could easily replace the scope with my 16mW 488nm air-cooled argon ion laser - it sounds like a vacuum cleaner when it's running, and would scare the poop out of anybody who was not familiar with ion laser technology.

I use a 5mW greenie. It works well, but I find that the colour is a little less contrasty than the (dimmer) red lasers.

In Japan I've seen some red ones with little motors in them that spin the diode to produce a donut of adjustable diameter. The non-pinpoint size makes them pretty noticeable. They feel funny in your hand, though. Anyone seen them in North America?

Do you own one? Any picture would be great indeed!

I've experienced using my 5mW (slightly over powered) new wish laser in a large lecture theatre.

More than powerful enough to do the job. Powers higher than around 10mW are not necessary and are dangerous. Especially if people are near the projection screen where reflections will be concentrated.

Hmmm. I was hoping someone here would know where to buy them. They look like a squarish, plastic laser pointer. They can be set to produce a line (some sort of diffraction thing, I think). There's also a little swithch that turns on a motor (feels kinda like those Gillette M3Power razors when it's going) and a knob to adjust the size of the circle. It was back in 2005 when I saw them, so I was hoping that they'd be more common by now. I'll do some searching.

These things look like the might be cool too, but I've never seen one in action.
