Anyone else have them. I've seen a couple of reviews, but there doesn't seem to be too much excitement surrounding them. I have the S3 and could not be happier. Any one else have any experience with them?

There have been a couple threads on them... rather old they've been around for months. You can likely dig up some stuff with the bottom search bar on them.

EDC the S2 and keep the S1 in my day pack. Good lights. The switch is a bit too sensitive but beyond that like it. A 2 mode LOD with stainless bezel and clicky. What's not to like?

they seem very costly. I would love to have a S2 and an S1.. But they seem so expesive

I've only found 2 B&M stores here that sell them.

One of them (mall based) wants $30 more than the other store for the S3 :sick2: I think they wanted about $20 more for the S2.

I already have a couple AAA based lights...I want something like these in a AA light.

I got my S1 for around 21 bucks during a 40% off sale and the S2 for 25 on sale at EMS with discount from another sale (got 25 bucks for buying 100 dollars or more). They had another sale with the S1 still at 21 and the S2 for 35ish up to a few weeks ago. In the case of the S2 cheaper than the LOD type lights also made by Fenix. I guess it depends on if you can find a sale. I just did a web lookup and found the S2 for 39.19 again cheaper than the LOD or LD01 (42-45) and has a 10 year backing from Leatherman.

I will have to keep my eyes open for these sales. I would really like to have the two smaller models. The S3 does not really interest me at the moment.
These pretty good lights then? I have read a few reviews and it seems like they are nice

Why not get a 3 mode LD01, full stainless steel, and much brighter for the same price or less

The S1 and S2 is on sale now at Amazon.com. I think $18 for the S1 and 28 for the S2.

Don't forget build quality. Although not made here in the states I get a real feel of quality from them. The ten year warranty helps also :).

I have a few reasons for this. First Leatherman underrates the S2 on high. They base the numbers on Alkaline and LD01 numbers are based on 2700 NiMH so the output of both lights would drop like a stone running high with Alkaline AAA. Hence the 35 lumen rates for the S2. Being a 2 mode LOD Q4 the S2 should not have all that lower output with the same batteries and would mostly be un noticed by the human eye unless both lights were side by side. It is far brighter than the listed 35 lumens and has a good tint. I have not seen any SS LD01 with the same kinda sales around as the S2

Also was available at a B&M store and on sale. Instant gratification can't be underrated.:) The LD01 was just out and people were reporting problems so got spooked off however like owning both the E01 and S1 guessing will end up with a LD01 sooner or later. That is the fate of all those who venture too long on CPF. :shrug:The LD01 seemed to have a reduced runtime on low compared to the LOD and by extension the S2. I think it is 3.5 hours as opposed to 8ish. Guessing the reason for this is the higher PWM of the LD01. However I would rather deal with the PWM that for me is not an issue for EDC in exchange for double the runtime. The low of both lights is not really low enough. I would prefer 4-5 lumens so consider the low of both lights to be more of a general purpose setting and could just as well skip the medium. The clicky was also a factor. Like my L2D Q5 I can give a tap to bump up or down modes. The downside to this sensitive switch can be a bit of flicker every once in a while that is cleared up with a extra click but so far this has not been a big problem and the benefits of a small tap for a fast mode change makes up for that. The switch is only sensitive for mode changes not on/off. It is stiff enough to stay off inside my pocket but not too stiff as to be a pain.

The clicky makes the S2 longer than the LD01 I think but even find the E01 too big for a keychain. I just use lithium cell type lights for that. So weight of the SS LD01 like the extra little bit for the S2 clicky is not a factor for EDC aka in my pocket.

Well, I got my SS LD01 for free from my Fenix dealer, didnt have a clue he sent it as a xmas present, the surprise when I opened the package cant be beaten :party:Than you very much if you read this:twothumbs

If the Serac S2 comes on sale near me I will probably try it out, but where I live it costs around 70-80 US$ in the B&M stores:duh2:

They are made by Fenix for Leatherman, so they should be good quality.

What's interesting is you can swap the heads of an E01 and S2 and they both work....

Of course, the S2 will then become a single stage, blueish tint, clicky light.....while the E01 will become a bit longer, 2 stage twisty, with a nice white tint. :naughty:
