The other week I found an article on how someone had modified their older audi to take LEDs. It was based around a Hella product. (prob 30-40mm round and all in a string of 5 units)

I did have the links to the lights but now cannot find anything on Hellas site in germany.

The LEDs were small and round and came in a "string" of about 5 units (with backing plates)

Unfort I blew my HDD the other day so lost all my links and downloads (inlc the PDF speccing these LEDs)

does anyone know the model?

That's the Hella LEDayflex product. Comes as a string of 5, 6, or (I think) 8 LED modules, and they are available with one function (daytime running light) or two functions (daytime running light, position/parking light).

Thanks for the FB, pity they're so expensive (once freight is added in, euro-aust is a bit of a killer)

Stay tuned, these will cross the pond soon enough. I've been looking at HELLA's LEDayLine DTRLs for a while now. I had the same complaint. Several months ago, I couldn't find a US vendor. Today, I found it at AutoBarn (official HELLA dealer) and it's listed on Amazon (but not yet available). Good news is they're expensive because they're high quality and SAE/DOT compliant (unlike PIAA). With a bit of patience, you will at least save on shipping! In the mean time, be careful, don't be fooled by the "HELLA type Daytime Running Light" EBay knock-offs!

Take care,

Patrick

that is indeed good news. I've no interest at all in the cheap chinese LEDs - I've seen too many that are sub-par and fail way in advance of their supposed shelf life.

apart from the fact that their output is pretty average.
