what would you good folks recommend that would be brighter than my photon but still compact and lightweight. a pelican L-1 maybe? or should i step up to an inova x5t?

I don't have a photon, but I use an Arc AAA with a clip to my hat and it's as least as bright as my best, whitest Pelican. The Pelican L-1 has a nice flood for close up work, especially if you luck out and get a real white one and the clickie is more convenient than a twist head but the clip is the wrong direction so you'd need to keep it at hand or on a lanyard. Also, the runtime isn't as good as the ArcAAA's, the batteries are more expensive & harder to change in the dark, and I don't think it's quite as water resistant if it takes a dunking, though neither of them float so that may be a moot point.

don't want a head lamp. athe arc sound interesting as long as i remember to wear a hat!

Might consider the SL Clipmate if you need more light than the ARC AAA. If you forget your hat, you can usually find something else to clip it to & still shine it where you need it. TX

IMHO, The light you need depends on the type of fishing and from where. I wouldn't use the same lights in my offshore boat as the kayak or when wade fishing. I like the arc for wading or kayak fishing cause it's not so bright to screw up my night vision, but plenty to see to tie knots, etc. Also waterproof. In larger boats, or shorebound, bigger, water resistant lights are fine to keep from having to use the "house" lights, and so preserve decent night vision. Either way, I got a 6P-N coming to use for emergency signaling, fish i.d. & avoidance collision in the boats with no 12V.

Kudos to you for suggesting a good choice that tkl was already looking at. Many times I forget to remember what people are considering before I give a suggestion.

Great idea. I like simple solutions.

I keep telling myself I'm not going to get a SF because they cost ten bucks an hour to run. Then you tell me about this use for your incoming 6P. In that situation just one blast justifies the purchase of the light.

Maybe a PT Attitude. Attitude

I get about 20 hours of good brightness out of mine and many hours of useable light after that. I've run 2 sets of evereadys in it up to 100 hours at which point it was at the "well it's better then nothing" level.
