can anyone ID these LED's? they are from a LED light sold at lowes. claims of 370Lm running at 12v DC. the white disk is all Al and had a small amount of thermopaste between it and the finned heat sink.

since they are powered by 12v does that mean each is a 3v LED or does it mean they are each 12v? really want to use these in a light box im wanting to build.
 
My vote is for XP-G/E. Look very small. How many lines are in the emitter?

And they are definitely wired in series. You can see the wires in the board. ~3v each. A bit under driven.

12V for 4 XPEs... so they must only draw 350ma [Vf = 3V @ 350ma]
370lm/4 = 92.5, so its around Q4 bin, possibly warm white.

i will have to run out and grab them to see about the lines. pics were from my phone and thats as close as it would zoom in. still not terrible pics for a cell phone. LOL. not sure about them being a deal since i think i paid $23 for the "bulb". it came with a "defuser" over the leds that i removed, obviously. LOL. i believe they are listed as "warm white" on the package. AREK98, i believe you are close with the 4k, think its actually 3400K but will have to confirm that to be sure. so, the $64 question, how well do you guys think these lights would work as a box light for emergency light for say lighting up a room for just navigation running off a 18650 or 2? of course i would remove the LED's from the pad and use them either individual or wire them parallel so its a chain of 3v LED's. be back in a min with the lines of the LED's.
 
I think they're XP-Es because you typically can't see anything but the die on an XP-G.

If you are going to tear that bulb apart to scavenge the emitters then why didn't you just buy emitters from one of the authorized vendors here?
 
without a magnifying glass i cant really tell but it does look like the XR-E to me. the bulb base says 5k and is the lpar20dm LED bulb.

LOL, well, it was an "impulse" buy from Lowes. im sure it would have been cheaper to buy them from a dealer but then i would have had to wait for them. i just wanted to see what type of LED's were being installed in home lighting. i also bought an LED light from walmart which appears to be a 12v bulb since nothing i have tried has ignited it(1.2v all the way up to 12v).
 
It's probably because they are on such a cheap MCPCB. They have no thermal pad that I can see, only traces for the connections.

Also, indeed they are obviously XP-E. Figured that with all the confusion, perhaps another repetition of that would help solidify the answer.
 
what im finding is the XP-E is a 3.2v bulb. what would be the best way to drive them with a 18650? i cant seem to find a driver that outputs 3.2v with a 3.7-4.2v 18650.
 
DX has a 20 pack of the AMC7135 350mA Regulated Circuit Boards and seems from the description i can use several battery options since it takes fro 3.6-4.5v. seems like i need to place an order from china unless you know of someone here in the US that carries them in stock.
 
well will wonders never cease. i purchased a couple of the cheap westinghouse yard lights to mess around with and one of them has a 3.2v lifepo4 battery in it. it is a 14500 size battery. the one in the light is only 400mAh but from doing a little searching i have found they also make a 600mAh version. so since these LEDs are 3.2v 2 of these batteries in a case with a single or even double LED setup should power it/them just fine. i even have a solar panel to keep them charged. i will post pics of my build as i get it done. i have already disassembled the LED/solar yard light so i will have to skip that step. LOL.

I also now have 3 10mm LED's to use in my joule thief light which is what started this search in the first place.


my wife thinks im crazy and hates it that even our kids have taken to my flashlight/LED addiction. LOL.
 
I wouldnt recommend DX. I placed an order three weeks ago and it still isnt here... Kaidomain has better selection anyway and ships faster.

DX does take a while from everything i have seen. not sure what im going to do for a driver just yet. how do i find out what the voltage drop across the LED is for figuring out which resistor i need to power the different LED's?
 
What is the brand/make/model of this LED light bulb as you bought it from Lowes?

Is it an AC light bulb or native 12v bulb?

I'd like to buy one myself and play with it.
