I recently disassembled a GEN III LED module from a busted police lightbar. I was able to salvage 3 functional LEDS from this process. Is there any way to tell what type they are or what power ratings they would need to function? The circuitboard was in pieces so I have nothing to test :shakehead

Thank you in advance for any input.

I've always wondered what LED's are in those light bars. Any pics?

Is "GEN III LED module" the term used by the manufacturer of the light bar? Kinda makes me think of Lux III's, but God knows what their marketing team came up with.

The police light bars I have seen (Whelen) are SMD type leds, as well as the amber warning lights we use on our work vehicles (forget the brand) but anything is possible.
Pictures would help, but I don't bet they will be lux's or cree's, probably a generic chinese led. Again, the ones I have seen where just series parralel arrays with smd resistors as well, no constant current drivers.

Must be 1 watt Led, maybe chinnese Luxeon copy, see the polarity marks in the board, if you want use just one and the colors of the Leds are, White, Blue or Green use a resistor in serie 30 ohm 4 watts, if the Leds are Red, Amber or Yellow use a 35 ohm 4 watts, If you want use the three Leds use a single resistor of 10 ohm 2 watts in the first colors or a 20 ohm 2 watts for the second ones, all this in 12 volts...

Thank you for the help... I have attached an image if anyone is curious. I have found a few more bits of info though. You are correct, the paperwork advertises "1 watt LEDS" but that is about it.

Check the polarity marks in your pic below, anyway try first with a 560 ohm 1/4 watts resistor to check it first, remember, before use the Leds atached to a good aluminium heatsink...
