Hi all! just today a chap ( a security guard) asked me if LED light can go througha car window (non tinted). And what LED light suffers that? the bluish 5mm led or the phenomoenon also happens with the newest generations?

BTW he is considering buying a Pelican 7060 for work....

Sure it will. I have a 1x14500 Q5 running around 700mA that totally lights up a car parked in the street from my porch.

That said, a dim little 5mm LED based light won't light up a car...or anything... very well. But any bright, high powered led shouldn't have an issue.

Of course, in incliment weather, the high blue flux of a led will tend to refract much more readily than the red-bias incan lights (which is why my glove box light is an incan G2).

The Pelican 7060 was developed for law enforcement use so it will have no prob. with a car window. As for the others I do not know, but the color may have some effect on transmission through tinted glass.

....Maybe someone else could chime in who knows more about it.

I tried afew led flashlights, the lights will shine threw the car window glass with no problem, i.e Gladius, WiseLED, Surefire U, Barbolight U15 and afew others.

I was playing.. I mean testing my Brinkman Maxfire W/P4 drop in just last night. It would easily go through my tinted window. Most of the spill was lost but the hot spot would light up a building 20 yards away.

IIRC, the LAPD asked for cool-tint-emitters specifically to penetrate tinted car windows. I don't have personal experience, however.

I have personal experience with the 7060 and it's great for peering into whatever type of windows you want. I use mine everyday and it out throws and out shines every other light of my co workers. It's a great choice.

I think you would need very thick glass for any effect to be noticeable. Most clear glass seems to have a very slight green cast to it, but I think the effect is minimal, and incan and LED light should be equally effective on normal car windows. The only problem you could expect is the obvious one, of reflection.

Car windows must filter out some UV rays. The transition lenses in my glasses don't darken very readily unless I look out an open window. So I suppose there may be some small effect.
