I recently picked up a dynamo/solar powered flashlight/radio, and it uses a 3.6 volt 0.3 A screw in bulb. I would like to put an LED in there to both be brighter and give longer runtimes. Anyone know if its possible to get a LED replacement bulb in a screw-in base? Most of the one's I've seen available are PR based only.

I'm guessing if there aren't any screw-in based LEDs that I could switch the bulb holder from a screw-in to a PR based.

Here is a background of the unit itself. It can charge a 3.6 volt 300 mAh battery pack by either solar power or wind-up. Information on the unit can be found here.

Anybody have suggestions as to what will work?

Tactical Warehouse has TerraLUX LED bulb replacements. These are not terribly bright but I don't know what you're replacing, so it might just be OK. I use the Broad Miser in a small reading light, which works better than the original incan.

I've modded several of those light radios with a 10mm amber LED and a 10 or 20ohm resistor. There's plenty of room inside the case, which makes it easy even if you are rather slopply. Remove the screw in base (you may have to brake it) and solder on to the leads that went to it.

Takes about 30 minutes and about 5 dollars in parts.
