Hi

I am currently renovating a cellar into a home cinema. As part of this, I want some LED colour changing mood lighting. I need 5m of LED strip, and remote control (I plan to use a Harmony remote to control it).

I have been speaking to some UK suppliers, and one has recommended the following components....

http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/u3800-controller-with-remote-18amp-p-2116.html

http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/sw3126plug12v-transformer-amps-watt-p-1061.html

http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/self-adhesive-tape-leds-metre-lumen-metre-p-1517.html

For what I need this will work out to be £175 GBP or about $260 USD.

Now, I have been looking around, and seen some Chinese based sellers selling a similar kit. One for example is http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270542124973&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT and this would be £55 GBP or $80 USD. Thats a big saving.

I know very little about LED lighting, so not sure what to do? I realise there are risks buying internationally, but there is a massive saving to be had there.

Anyone care to offer any advice?

Are you in the UK or the U.S.? That sounds like a lot of money for what you need, and there are online retailers based in the U.S. that offer RGB supplies for half of what UltraLEDs is asking.

Ordering directly from China is a little bit of a gamble, since they have potentially fewer/lower manufacturing standards that will vary company to company. Ordering from a U.S. company that selects its products and manufacturers is the best bet.

I am in the UK. The Chinese sellers offer free delivery. Can you recommend a good US base supplier that would ship reasonably to the UK?

I'm not sure if these are made any longer or not, but there used to be a T5-based tri-color blending system, one tube each of red, blue, and green, that were on a dimming ballast with three separate controls and a cycle function.

That was a few years ago, I am not sure if they're made any longer. They were about 300 bucks last I'd heard of them. I can't even remember the company name!

A free delivery of **** still leaves you with a load of ****

Don't they make them in the UK? I'll bet there are import taxes.
