Hey all

I am considering using the Ledil Square Optics with an XP-G. Although the optics are listed under the "Optics for XP-C/E/G" heading on cutter the product description reads "Designed & optimized for Cree XP-E series of LEDs".

So my question is this, is the shape and size of the XP-G dome and die different enough from the XR-E to cause problems with using the ledil optics?

I have use the optics before with XR-E's with great success so I hope the answer is no.

Thanks :)

The dome and chip dimensions are the same for the XP-C,E, & G so I would think you will be ok. The only difference is the output.

Well I just came to the realization (a little to late for the sake of this thread) that the Ledil optics I linked in the opening post are infact designed from the ground up for the XP-G.

After looking through the Ledil website again I realized that they have the CRS series (for XR-E's) and the CXP series (for the XP-G's).
Best of all cutter stocks both the CRS and CXP.

They both look pretty much the same from what I can tell but I gather they optics are of a different shape to counter the larger XP-G die.

Anyway, apologizes to all if this was already well known.

optic was designed for XP-E. XP-G uses same package, but larger die. I don't know what this translates to, but I would think it would mean brighter center...

XP-G in a LISA XP = wider hotspot. The beam is still nice and smooth.

hmm it looks like cutter.com.au hasnt updated their info or data sheet for the CXP and this is whats causing the confusion. If you take a look at the ledil website they have different info regarding the CXP.

They also dont have an option on cutter for choosing different focus types of the CXP as they do for the CMS.

Might shoot them an email in the morning and see whats going on.

For comparison, a Carclo rep today sent me some info on what they have done in qualifing old xp lenses for the xpg, and they've measured many of their 10 & 20 mm series (including the 10mm triple).

Verdict: The FWHM is about 8-10 degrees wider than as stated for the XPE. This turns a manageable 16-17 deg into a pretty floody 24-27!

Carclo however does have some single optics in work for the xpg line, and they look pretty promising!! I will have a few to test soon. FYI, Ledil has some xpg specific in work as well.

Well I should find out for sure in a few days. I have just ordered a XP-G Q5 and a Ledil CXP-RS which has a 5.5 Degree spread when used with a XP-E.

So the hope is that even if it is more flood'y its still under 15degrees.

I will get some side by side shots comparing it to an XR-E and its respective optics when I pick it up in a few days.
