I guess it is a little late now as I have made my order for some LED's but I thought I would ask the opinion of the people that know.

I have ordered some L200CW6KB-12D LED's from ledtronics on the internet and thought I would check to see what you folks think of them. I have been working with some LED's from Radio Smack and have found that they have some pretty gnarly halos. As my partner in this thing we are doing has informed me we are now going to be working with some lenses to focus the light but I think I am just going to sneak some reflective inner walled tubing in on him instead.

Have any of you ever used this type of light modifier before? If you get the right shaped tubes it knocks the halos out and gives a very nice disbursing of light and could have better results with the use of lenses to boot as far as I can see.
My previous project didn't pan out with the 1100 mcd Radio Shack model so I have stepped it up a little to 6000 mcd from ledtronics and figure it should do the job.

The last project was not a complete failure though as I do have a flashlight that will last a LONG TIME

on three AAA batteries and works great for fishing at night.
Seems like old Ben Franklin and I have something in common but there is no way your going to catch me out in a storm with a kite.

Well if any body is interested in the preformance of the LED's from ledtronics I just got in the mail I will do the best I can to tell you.

The following are Ledtronics specs on the LED's I have bought.
Model number L200CW6KB-12D
LED color= Cool White
Lens color= white clear
If ma typ.= 20ma
MCD= 6000
Vf typ. Max.= 3.6/4.0
Color temp.= 8000
Chromaticity Coordinates typ.= X=0.32 Y=0.31
Viewing angle= 12 degrees.
I have tried these little guys with a six volt power source and they turn kind of a green blue color and the leads start to get to about 120 F in about 45 seconds. A 100 ohm resistor brings them back to a near white and if any heat I did not notice it.
At 4.5 volts with no driver they have a halo outside the 12 degrees of projection that comes from a reflection from the little base at the bottom of the LED as far as I can tell. Then a yellow halo within the 12 gegrees around the outer ring of light that they project that is a little on the thick side maybe. Within this halo of yellow the light is a very white slightly bluish light that is pretty bright and well disbursed.
As for the intensity of light they will leave a dot floating in your eye if you look into them for sure and will cast a beam of light well over twenty feet in relative darkness at 4.5 volts with no driver. I have tried a 10 ohm resistor with a 4.5 volt power supply and have notice very little change in the intensity of light. If you would be interested I can do a diration of illumination test with the 4.5 volt supply and a 10 ohm resistor as I have this planned anyway.
I figure the price wasn't bad at $1.60ea. but you will have to buy $25 worth to get that price too. I am happy but easy to please most of the time. Oh yeah they did goof and send me two blue LEDs as part of the order so I have sent them an email.
