You know a valid 18650 Li-ion battery is not produced with more than 3600mAh, which is the current capacity limit. Any 18650 battery claiming to be higher than that might be not truthful. To improve Li-ion batteries' energy density, some companies are trying to develop the battery technology.

This company NanoGraf claimed that it has enabled the highest energy density 18650 Li-ion battery with using a silicon anode, which can provide a 28% longer run time than traditional cell chemistry and shorter charge time. They are developing a silicon-anode technology, to enable longer-lasting, higher-energy, and higher-power Li-ion batteries. One of the biggest opportunities for more energy-dense batteries lies with electric vehicles, such as the Tesla Model S, which would last approximately 28% longer.

In your views, will this be a breakthrough for the battery industry, or is this actually something this time? Thanks for your kind comments!

I wouldn't hold your breath as the article is almost a year old now with no further news and I've seen way too many "battery breakthroughs" parroted that never made it to market. It is just as likely a new battery chemistry would make it to market first as this one.
