hi , im after a 15 ish amp hr li ion battery pack upto 14.4 volts.. i want it to run a light force 170mm hunting lamp..if i was going to use ex laptop cells and solder them together what circuit board would i need to use and for it not to burst into flames when out hunting??

If the packs are going to be near or worn on your person, I'd go with these Hobbyking available, Zippy brand LiFeP04 packs, not LiPo. They weigh a bit more but worth the added safety.

all laptop cells have tabs welded to them, just cut tabs so there is about 1\4 inch of tab left on the cell, than solder to tabs.
however to get 15ah you'd need 4s7p pack, i doubt you will find all 28 identical (capacity, manufacturer, condition) cells, in used laptops cells, and you defiantly want same cells in a pack.

i doubt very much cells are in same condition, but even with those cells, your pcb does not balance cells, you might get away with it, using new cells, but old worn out cells will not last long in that pack.
but hey, you already got free cells, shame not to use them, solder them, when they fail, you replace them, gaining expirience working with them.
idk what kind is 170mm light is, but if it is halogen 12v 100w, spike on starts can be quite high, waayy more than 8A your pcb can handle, it might trip protection, if you have to get new pcb look for one with equalibrium function, and able to handle at least 30A.
if you got led light, never mind.

Maybe a Home Depot rechargeable spot light would fit the bill. The light weight ones are a joke.
The good ones have a sealed lead-acid 6volt battery and are mega bright and will run a good while.
I got one for around $20.00 awhile back. Forty bucks will get a good one for sure.
I just looked it up. Its Dorcy brand selling for $21.95 in the U.S.
1 million candlepower.

im using a light force 170.100w..and to be honest they are the best iv found so far for throw and tightness of the spot.....i was hoping to find a cheap ish light weight battery...deben do a lithium battery but its £200...can my light force be modifeid to run led? many thanks and sorry to be a pain

it pbly easier to build led search light from scratch, than to make leds work with large shallow bulb reflectors. at least in my experience.
you could convert yours to hid, it wont be much brighter, but will run 2x and longer, on same battery.
but if you have to turn light on and off frequently, hid ramping up time will pbly annoy the crap out of you, lol
