I finally ordered some AW protected 123, 14500 and 18650 batteries and a Pila IBC charger to use for various flashlights. Any advice for charging
the cells for the first time like "cycling" them or any other prep?

Charge them up and use them. No cycling needed.

I got my first 18650, stuck it into the charger, and I was good to go. It has since gone through many charge/discharge cycles powering my EDC-P7 from EL with nary a complaint. Just charge and enjoy.

No cycling needed. Just try to charge them before the protection circuit shuts the battery down. Not necessary, but should extend cell life by a healthy margin.
