The Japanese artists Takeshi Nagata and Kazue Monno collaborate on what they call "PIKAPIKA: lightening doodle project".

Basically they take long-exposure images of people drawing in the air with flashlights, and then stitch these images into short films. The results are pretty amazing, and remind me why I fell in love with flashlights when I was a kid.

Click on the image above to go to the project web site, where the artists have several of their films posted.

I read about PIKAPIKA on the boingboing site, where I think they say that there is a commercial for Sprint done by the same artists ... anyway, I thought that there one or two people here at CPF who might enjoy this :grin2:

That's pretty cool. I don't like what's being sold in the sprint commercial.. but everything else was nice.

I've tried to draw faces with my flashlight and capture it with my camera before. It takes a lot of practice.

Ha! Those guys are pretty good ... I love this one:

You not only have to be a flashaholic and a good photographer to pull this off, you have to know how to draw too ...:twothumbs

I did a similar long exposure around the 4th of July with my kids. I let them run around with a sparkler.
