Yes. We now have a few Arc-LS seconds in stock.

These where units with the flex failure that we took apart and fixed. Time will tell, but I think we have a fairly solid fix for the flex failure now.

I have such an addiction that I am now considering $70 to be cheap for a flashlight. I just ordered one to see how it compares to my 0.9 version. I just hope that unlike the email confirmation, it doesn't take three days to ship so I can have this puppy before vacating for the Labor Day weekend holiday.

Peter, thanks for the explanation. I had ordered one of these earlier and, of course, had no idea why these were considered seconds.

Care to explain what you did to prevent the problem?
Was it grinding the HA off the bezel which you described two weeks ago? Is it something existing owners could do on their own?

These are with the new style (smaller) AA pack.

The fix included removing the black epoxy from the top ground, grind the bezel lip free of HA, chasing some of the HA off the bezel threads so there is a secondary electrical path and applying conductive (silver bearing) epoxy between the PCB ground and the housing to provide a third ground path. You can never have too many grounds..

Peter

Peter - where the heck are you grinding the finish off? I can't see a place where removing any HAIII would help the ground path. I'm a sucker for ground-paths myself, so I'd like to tune mine up as well.

The "flex failure" issue is now an official problem for this version. The symptoms are the light comes on initialy but further tightening causes the light to go out. Typically, this problem shows up early and gets worse. Eventually, the unit stops working completely. The problem has two possible causes, either the pcb is being pushed away from the ground (a poor ground issue), or the pcb is being flexed by the pressure of the battery which is causing the components to delaminate from the surface.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Peter - wondering if the earlier analysis (the "either," not the "or") of the flex failure problem quoted above was essentially correct, and if so:

I have one of the "failed loctite" LS's. It has shown no symptoms of "flex failure." But if it did, would my ability to tighten the two parts of the head (due to the lack of effective loctite) allow me to correct the problem by myself? Not sure if I have the geometry of the ground path quite right here...

Paul

P.S. Love the light (of course). I really have no real "need" for such a nice flashlight, but just having it makes me happy.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">This is so true that it almost hurts. I guess I've known it all along, but seeing it in print really brings it home. I have no actual "need" for most of my lights, certainly. But they DO make me happy. I couldn't really tell you why, but being able to chase the dark away just makes me giddy.

Beautifully said.

Not so fast. I've only been a member for six days and I'm closing in on 200. Not out of the running yet.

Hmmmm....now that I've typed that.....I just feel kind of pathetic.

Guess the pool goes to whoever reaches 5000 first, and I pretty much guarantee you it will be Darell, unless his computer breaks or he can't pay his ISP and gets shut off. :-/

To put this back on track, I have two "seconds" and they've worked fine since the day I got them. The royal blue is a "second" only because of color differencees between the head and the bezel ring. The beam is essentially perfect, and is as bright as it should be. The white has the "old style" optics and has a very slightly irregular beam, but it's certainly no worse than the beam from my prototype Arc LS.

Hi Peter,
It may just not be meant to be but I sure would like one of the ARC LS seconds, only I can't get the pages to load completely for the shipping info/continue screen. Are there any left and can you help me out here.I've tried several times and keep hanging up at 39%

We are out again until Thursday but allowing the site to continue to a few more orders. Order recieved today to Wednesday will ship out Thursday.

Peter

I just ordered two SLS's, as from reading Peter's initial post these are second because they had to be taken apart and repaired due to the flex problem, so I am hoping that the beam quality and tint for this batch will be equivalent to LS first standards. Also, I am wondering if delamination has now being ruled out as a cause for the flex problem, and if not, will the additional grounds fix still work if delamination is in fact the problem?

Peter: All gone? Suddenly I had this urge to have another SLS. I get those sometimes, and they so rarely coincide with availability....
