Long term battery "storage" inside the flashlight?

Just got a new flashlight which runs on AA's, I use NiMH rechargeable's and most of the time flashlight will be sitting on my night stand, with very seldom use, as a just in case light. Now my concern is NiMH AA's will drain themselves empty over rather short period of time, just by sitting inside the flashlight without the light usage, and then when I need the flashlight, it won't have enough juice in it. So, what AA's do you think are best suited for this type of use? Something that can survive just sitting inside the flashlight for months (hardly used), without draining itself empty? I am afraid of alkaline's because they might corrode/burst or whatever usually happens to them over time so do I have any other options?

What do you guys use or do in this case? Maybe I should just unscrew the flashlight cap enough so that there is no contact which also contributes to drainage? I don't know...:sick2:

As Imon mentioned, Lithium Primaries.

The other option to use low self-discharge NiMh cells such as Eneloop, Duracell Pre-Charged, or Rayovac Hybrid/Platinum cells.

These are all low self-dicharge NiMh cells that retain their charge for 6 months or more.

What do you guys use or do in this case?
Eneloop rechargables have 75% of the charge left after three years. Unlike primaries, you don't have to feel bad for using them since you can just recharge them again if they have been used too much.
