I was hoping to find a nice reading light that uses a CR123 battery. No luck so far, any suggestions? If there isn't one that uses the CR123 how about just your favorite LED reading light. thanks

EDIT: for book reading so I need some kind of clip.

Try one of the quark lights that have the 0.2 lumen moonlight mode.

I think Zebralight headlamp makes the best reading light. They use to offer CR123 version with very floody beam profile just like the H501 that uses AA battery, if I am not wrong it is the H30, but looking at their website now it seems to only be offered in the newer H31 model with a reflector which is not as floody.

looks nice but how do I use this when reading a book? Is there a clip system? Thanks for the quick reply.

You referring to the Quark suggested by ebow86 or are you referring to the Zebralight?

For Zebralight, they come with headband. If you don't mind the less floody beam then get the H31 with reflector. I love the older ones with a super flood.

thanks for this recommendation, if I can't find one that clips onto the book I will be get this. I probably actually will order it eitherway. thanks again.

I love reading before I sleep and most of the time I just make do with a Quark MiNi AA neutral white. Been thinking about ordering Zebralight H501w ever since I saw the level of flood from my friend's H60W. I fell in love with the flood beam because it is the smoothest flood beam I ever saw.

I was able to find and order both the H30 and H31. I still would like to get something that clips to the book though

The H30 is by far the best reading lamp you will ever have. A lot better than the H31 for that purpose since it's pure flood without any sign of a hotspot (no reflector). You might not be actually convinced but when you'll try it you'll love it for sure. Also, since it's on your head and not on the book, you won't even notice you're reading in the dark. With a clip style light, you often have to unclip to turn pages, not with an headlamp. Also, the Zebra can be directed perfectly in the desired angle and dimmed nicely, so you won't wake the girlfriend while reading...

Fat Boy,

I find that the most simple, discreet and effective way to use a ZL headlamp to read is by wearing it around my neck like this. I don't even have to remove it when I am done. I just tuck it behind the shirt and it's always there. It's more comfortable than wearing it on your head too.

There is really no need to clip it on a book. But if you still insist, then here is how I have done it.

Thanks a lot for the last two posts you guys. I feel more confidant now in the h30 and will trust your opinion and experience, THANKS!

I've never seen a dedicated book light that runs on CR123's. Most of them are AAA's or button cells.

FYI, if anyone else wants to get ahold of the Zebra H30 I found them at flashaholics in the UK and they now only have two left of this older model.

I received my order of the Zebra H30 and it is a GREAT light that will perfectly work for night reading. THANKS YOU GUYS FOR THE RECOMMENDATION!!!!
Surpassed my expectations and I can see this is going to be one of my most practical lights. :)

Now you should find thousands of uses for your Zebra ! After I bought mine, I wondered how could I lived without one all these years. It's a real must-have for any flashaolic.

Glad you still like it, 4 years later ! I'm glad I recommended you what you needed...
