I'm in the market for a new bike light. My primary use is commuting at about 18-20mph on unlit roads. Average commute time in the dark is 1.5 - 2 hours per day. It looks as though the Minewt X2 would fit the bill, but I don't have that much to spend (~$190).

I'm considering buying a Minewt X2 head assembly direct from Niterider for $50 and then using it with my own Li-ion battery and charger. Has anybody here done this yet? Is the regulation circuitry of the Minewt X2 in the head assembly or bundled with the battery? What is the battery's voltage? Does anyone have pictures of the disassembled Minewt head?

If the regulation circuitry for the Minewt is bundled with the battery, them I'm hoping to I can use a bflex UIB2 to run the light from my Li-ion pack.

Am I totally off base here? Should I be considering soemthing else entirely different?

Thanks!

The circuit is mainly in the battery pack... as the switch is on the pack...

I have modded a few to seoul LED...with a fixed lead into the LIGHT you could run a remote driver as the b/flex won't fit in the head unit...(can't disconect between the LED & driver or 'poof')

you could run some AMC7135's the head... from a 3.7v li/po.
