Hi everyone,
I'm a member of the Los Angeles SIGGRAPH chapter of ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), and for the June meeting (on Tuesday the 10th) we are doing a meeting with a "electronics hardware tinkering" theme. If any CPF member in the Los Angeles area has some electronic hackery they'd like to show off, this might be an event you'd be interested in.
Here's the deets:
A Call for Participation
Los Angeles ACM SIGGRAPH invites you to participate in our Social Hour
Science Fair before the presentation. If you have any home brew projects
you'd like to share please reserve a spot for our Social Hour Science
Fair.
Science Fair
participants will be admitted to the event free of charge.
LA SIGGRAPH presents "Maker Night"

7:30-10:30pm - Presentation
Presentation
Election Results!
Musician Jeff Boynton (http://www.blankstare.biz/CBpage.html) presents a
circuit bending performance featuring a totally immersive audio
environment powered by his electronic creations.
Author and illustrator Mark Frauenfelder of Boing Boing
(http://boingboing.net) presents "The Rise and Fall and Ride of Modern
Making"
A few folks have mentioned to me that I was a little unclear on what sort
of home-brew projects we're looking for.
We're looking for robotics, electronics, crafty thing-a-ma-bobs, blinking
lights, buzzing whats-its, tactile playthings, etc. Specifically, we're
not looking for animation loops or reels so it's something really
different for LA SIGGRAPH.
All projects should be self contained and all materials required need to
be brought to the site by the presenter. If it needs to be plugged in, you
should probably plan to bring an extension cord.
If anyone is interested, post here along with some info on what you'd like to show. Admission to the meet is $20, but for those who are approved as presenters, that will likely be waived. I'll have more details soon -- I need to get your info into the L.A. Sigg council by Friday.
We are also looking for sponsorship -- we usually get corporate sponsors, but because of the different theme (we usually focus on graphics) we aren't expecting any funds from the usual donors. L.A. SIGGRAPH is a non-profit, so sponsorship is deductible.
Edited to add: I'm fairly certain that the venue won't accomodate any tank lights, as impressive as those would be
