I'm thinking of getting a few low cost single AA light to leave in the cars and around the house. I need a decent high output running off alkaline AA. Hopefully a dual output if possible but this is not necessary.

I have search a few web sites and saw a few UltraFire and a few other no-name brand. However, none really tell me what is the high off alkaline AA. They all say around 190 lumen but that mean they are running off a 14500.

Anyone knows of a good low cost AA light that I can order off the internet?

How cheap are we talking about here?

If you want a good cheap 2-mode the rc-n3 2 mode from shiningbeam is a good choice for like 25 shipped. Maybe the upcoming ITP A2 for 25 might interest you too. Although maybe you are looking for something in the 5 or 10 dollar range?

I don't really have a budget in mind but I'm thinking of spending $50 to $100 total. Hoping to pick up 4 to 5 light?

the Dealextreme sku.26122 stainless Q5 is quite nice. The high is pretty good from a AA probably in the low 100s of lumen, the medium is good and the low is very low for around the house at night, memory mode for last used output works too.

Chucks out more light with a 14500 and heat too.

Take a look at the new Inova X1 version 4 single AA/single mode. It can be found @Target for $23.99 give or take a couple of bucks depending on where you live.

Thanks everyone for your reply, this is what I picked up.

Purchased 3 of these Ultrafire C3 Stainless Steel Cree Q5-WC (sku 26122) from DX.

I also picked a Noma Cree XLamp XP-E LED for $20 at a local Canadian Tire Store. This Noma XP-E is actually pretty bright for running on a single NiMH AA battery, almost as bright as my L1 Cree.

Romisen RC 29 looks really impressive...

And man says 6800 lux at 1 meter readings...

i was actually looking at this romisen a couple of months back. It looks like a pretty good light and since it's aspheric maybe it throws better?

i think the above picture must be the same head but with a different battery tube as the rc-29.

The picture is of a Romisen RC-C6 CR123A light (that was modded to use a CR2 battery if I remember correctly).

I can recommend the RC-29, it's a nice light.

This is Romisen RC 29 from KD...

Isn't this same thing? Anyway it looks impressive... (15$)

Are romisens reliable? Do they last years and years with rough use like the major brands?

Well i have a couple of romisens, I have one next to the door and i can tell you that they do hold up.......its been used for blackouts, when taking the dog out for potty time, etc.....

The light that i was going to recommend for the OP was the ITP SA1 Eluma...just got mine today and loving it so far.

I was just trying to find a niche for the iTP A2 and the low-med-high along with its size and reliable twisty mechanism makes it a great emergency or survival light.

The beam profile is of the best there is, floody and smooth, power is not a factor as it gets beaten by most other 1AA's for maximum brightness.
But its not about that, its small with a good runtime on all modes.
Mode are almost identical in brightness to the A3 but in the standard order.

I like a lot.
Put a L91 inside and you could leave it for 10 years and it would still probably work.
Something over 2x days runtime on low, a couple of hours on high.

I've got the UltraFire A10 from DX, for $17.66 sku.19187

I think this is very bright.

I then heard about the romisen and bought a RC-G2 II Q5 and RC-H3 II Q5 from shiningB

Wasn't really impressed with the run times of the RC-G2 II Q5. Seems to dim pretty quickly. Never, really tested or played with the H3 has one of my family members swiped that one from under my nose and I never saw it again :mecry:

I'm looking for something like the UltraFire A10, maybe longer runtimes. I'm using rechargeable batteries (eneloops)

If you are talking major brands like Surefire, Jetbeam, Fenix, Nitecore and so on, i honestly dont think so. I have tested my Jetbeams by throwing them up in the air and letting them fall to the ground (road) but i sure as heck wouldnt want to try that with a Romisen or Ultrafire.

Bottom line is you get what you pay for.
