I've been searching for some low-temperature solder but haven't had any luck with the usual suppliers here - RScomponents - Element14 (previously Farnell).
A Chipquik SMD Removal kit contains 2.5 feet of solder that melts at 136deg.F (58deg.C). If you mounted LEDs with this you would have a thermal fuse - if the LED gets too hot it falls off ! It sure would reduce the risk of damage from soldering.

I can get it airmail from the US for $26 or at Jaycar for $30.
What alternatives are there ?
