Well folks this is my first offical mod that I have done
outside of just putting in ever-LED in existing flashlights.
I took out a one watt luxeon star with the bin code: P2L
and installed a luxeon III with bin code: SX1K and added
a resistor in paralle because I could'nt get the right one
tonight. It is pulling 667 ma from 3 aa alkalines. The new
highdome figures out to 2105mw when I get the right resister
in I will have it running at 1000ma. But I'm happy with the change in the light and beam output. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Clifton, way to jump in. Believe me, it's only the beginning. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Man, take the plunge and get rid of those resistors and say hello to 1A or there abouts. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

By the way, if you have more resistors and have the room, put another resistor in there in parallel.

To calculate total resistance:

1
-------------------------- = Total resistance
(1/R1) + (1/R2) + (1/R3)...

Where R is the value of each resistor.

Cliff, great job!

If I were you I would lose the resistors though. You would then be driving the Lux III at "only" near-factory spec, or about 900 mA.

In fact now I have something to try on my own SL 3AA. And it was already making about 625 lux with the low dome and full-on factory resistance!

hmm, will the mod run OK on NiMH? runtime be darned, i want BRIGHT and i wnat it now. will these go on sale in the near term? (mods, i mean)

Uh, unless it's a Lux III driven at spec, of course. Yes, One Full Amp -- then I'd consider the modder at least Half a man! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
