Hi guys as subject. This is going to be my very first try on building high powered light so any advices are welcome.
I currently have MCP spotlight with 6V 50w H3 bulb powered by SLA battery. I was thinking of building M@g85 but will it brighter than my sock MCP light? with cost around 120USD to build M@g85 would i be better of converting MCP spotlight to 35w HID?

What Maglite body would you recommends for M@g85? Mag 3D? or Mag 4D with 1 D Dummy cell to make voltage the same as 3D? so i can have room for future just in case i want to run higher voltage bulbs.

thanks.

I'm not to sure how many lumen's the MCP spotlight throws so cant really help you their.

The Perfect housing is the mag 3d with the 9aa to 3d battery holder, If you go for a mag 4D like you said you will need the 1d dummy cell

Here is the WA1185 bulb limits thanks to lux

You will also need to replace the reflector with a metal one, the plastic lenses with a glass one and also get a bulb holder,, if you didn't know

I search the net apparently H3 5v 55w automotive halogens are rated at around 1400 bulb lumens, with the best setup according to your data M@g85 with WA1185 bulb should be brighter. I think i will be building one! M@g85 is smaller compared to my MCP light :) i'll turn that into 50 watts HID latter.

thanks.

Did you find a 6v H3 HID kit? Cause I just converted a 15watt 2.3Amp 6V spotlight to a 55watt 4.5Amp spotlight and I would be interested in a HID
