Madmax converters

I know that this questions gets asked a lot and yes I tried the search function /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif In fact I searched for a couple of hours last night trying to get the answer myself. I'm still confused /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif What is the difference between the 3 Madmax boards?

Wide open = ?
wide open plus = ?
Lite = half the output of the "regular" madmax boards?

The specs for the wide open and wide open plus are the same as far as I can tell.

Organized in terms of approximate current sent to the emitter (and thus brightness on the same emitter), the order is Lite, Regular, Plus. As I understand, they work the same way, but at different levels.

Flatscan, thanks for the help but your post is a perfect example of why I am so confused /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif The shoppe does not have any boards for sale listed as only "madmax" or "regular". There is:

1. Lite wide open
2. plus wide open
3. wide open

"Wide open" (WO) is the MadMax without trim pot. I believe that all MadMax boards/sandwiches currently available from the Shoppe are WO.

Older MadMax boards featured a trim pot that allows the brightness to be adjusted. The WO boards have a resistor or jumper replacing the potentiometer so that they run "wide open" without adjustability.

Okay, now were getting somewhere. "Wide open" is a fancy term for plain old regular everyday basic madmax. A "plus" is a higher output version and the "lite" is a lower output version?

If so, What is the actual rated difference? Both the "wide open" and "plus wide open" are rated at ~700ma per the specifications listed. Also, the "lite" is approx 1/2 the output of ______?

There are three main versions of the MM. Going from most runtime and least brightness to least brightness and most runtime we have the MM lite, MM, and MM+. The MM lite runs at about 500mA, the MM+ at about 800mA, and the MM somewhere in between.

Wide-open means there is no trim-pot, and the output can therefore not be adjusted.

EDIT: I don't think you should base anything on the inventory of the shoppe. Modules come and go. Just because you don't see something, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I really wish Wayne would make something very simple and clear cut about his modules. I try to explain everything to my dad, and he still doesn't get it. He didn't know what to get last time, so he probably wasn't satisfied as much as he could have been, if he knew what was the right one for him, for sure.

So for 300mA or more extra power coming out of the MM+ over the other M&M (I just couldn't resist putting a candy reference) is the MM+ noticably brighter?
